New printer, need newer gutenprint for F10.
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
I just had to replace my aging Epson C82, and bought an NX515. In
cups/gutenprint, the newest driver is for the NX400 series printers. It
works, at resolutions up to 720x720.
Whats chances we can get the newest gutenprint built for F10?
Thanks.

Tips needed for making room for the 500M /boot on F12
by Andre Costa
Hi,
it looks like F12 will need a 500M /boot partition[1]. My current setup is
as follows:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 190M 32M 149M 18% /boot
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-System
58G 4.9G 53G 9% /
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-Home
20G 9.4G 8.9G 52% /home
Or, in plain words, / and /home are LVM ext4 partitions, and /boot is a
separate 200M ext3 partition. Anyone could share some tips on what I will
need to do in order to make room for the 500M /boot partition? (as safe and
non-destructively as possible, of course). Since Fedora 10 I've been
installing instead of upgrading: I reformat everything except /home and
install from scratch (which has proven to be a nice approach, YMMV). I'd
like to stick to this approach, if possible.
I would think that I could remove current /boot, shrink / by 300M using LVM
and use the extra space to create a new /boot; is this the best way to go?
If so, has anyone done such a thing? Will it be doable from anaconda during
the F12 installation?
A jump from the less than 50M needed by F11 to 500M needed by F12 seems to
be excessive IMHO (it seems to be due changes on the installation
method[2]). However, as long as there's an easy and painless way to make
room for the extra space needed, that's allright by me.
Regards,
Andre

libc-2.10.1.so
by Bengt-Erik Soderstrom
In trying to resolve a segfault appearing in libc-2.10.1.so with
mozilla Seamonkey, I discovered that there are really two different
versions of libc-2.10.1.so: The first one is in /lib and it is 1803428
byte, the second one is in /lib/i686/nosegneg and this one is 1816452
byte. Isn't it strange to have two files with the same name but different?

Um I am now up to this step, but no xorg.conf file to modify.
I remember this was an issue with FC10 -- no xorg.conf and there was a
particular step you need to create one before you could modify it???

F11: Exchanging messages within the house
by lanas
Hi all,
Is there a package in Fedora 11 that would allow the exchange of
messages within the members of a family, w/o having to go to the
internet and have these shipped using external email accounts ? I'm
thinking of a nice and simple way of leaving messages for others such
as notes and such. An extension on this would be to have a wiki I
guess. I'm looking for something simple to setup. Is there such a
thing ? All computers in our house are using a version of Fedora
(mostly 11).
Thanks for any suggestions.

Question about Cups
by Antonio M
I connected a Vista PC to my network and I cannot print from it while
I can go to my shared folders on other PC.
I have to investigate the cause, but my question is related to mime
files in /Etc/cups.
I remember that in the past I had mime.convs and mime.type present,
that now are missing...any reason???
Tnx

"shutdown now" on F11 as root problems and app crashes in VNC sessions
by KC8LDO
I've normally used the command "shutdown now" as root in a terminal window,
in a remote VNC session, on other machines and it works. I want to run the
machine I have as a headless server/remote workstation. On the F11 box I
have all it does is drops down to a CLI on the main console in run state 1
as root. Doing the same thing at the command line above at this point causes
the machine to reboot to a graphical login screen, not shut down! Selecting
the shutdown option at the graphical login screen however does work as
expected. Any clues?
Also how do you configure "bug-buddy". There doesn't appear to be any way to
configure bug-buddy after spending some hours looking on the Internet. I
have two Gnome apps that crash at startup in a remote VNC session too and
bug-buddy can't automatically send the error reports. In fact I haven't
found a site specific to the applications, one of which is the nm-applet and
the other is a gnome configuration editor I think they are.

Welcome to KDE desktop sharing
by Paulo Cavalcanti
Hi,
how do I get rid of the screen asking me to configure KDE desktop sharing?
Every time I log in, this window pops up. It is really annoying. This is
F10, by the way.
Thanks.

Me, too (ATi :-(). However, I still have f11 and the livecds are the
only way to test the latest code. Creating a custom one takes in my
case about 40 mins (no cached repo) and I don't want to make a new one
every few days.
