Domain of sender address ... does not resolve
by Bill Davidsen
I just did a new FC9 (fully updated) install, and it regularly rejects outgoing
mail with the subject error message. The address does resolve, of course, so I'm
not sure what it means instead of what it says.
The nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf are the authoritative DNS for the domain,
both are up, etc.
Someone have a clue?

two F11 issues
by Fred Smith
Hi everyone!
F11 live cd, booting from USB on a eeepc 901 (20 gig model).
boots fine, pretty much everything works fine.
But...
1) sound volume is so low as to be nearly inaudible. I've cranked up every
mixer/volume control I can find, including alsamixer. I know that in F10,
doing that worked--every new kernel on f10 would reset alsamixer to 50%,
and I'd have to go reset it. But F11 seems to be different. Clues pls?
2) printing anything to my Brother HL2070N laser printer prints only one
line of garbage at the bottom of the page, then nothing else. Or else the
job sits in the queue forever without printing. Varies a bit depending on
which printer drive I choose. Same results whether I use the RH printer
config tool, or whether I browse to localhost:631. ON F10 (and pretty much
every other system I've used) configuring the printer has been a piece of
cake, and it "just works". I choose HL2060 as the printer model and usually
the recommended driver. Which one is the recommended one varies a bit
depending on the version/age of Linux one is using, but they've always
worked. Not now. Advice appreciated.
I wouldn't THINK these would be artifacts of using the live-from-usb
method. I'm trying to test it out for a while before blowing away the
(mostly) working F10 installation.
Thanks!

I have identified that my issues are caused by SELinux. I have
rebooted with enforcing=0 to switch SELinux into permissive mode and
ConsoleKit and Pulseaudio start correctly and audacious plays music.
Even after performing a full relabelling of the SELinux security
context of all files by touching /.autorelabel and rebooting, SELinux
in enforcing is preventing D-Bus starting ConsoleKit and Pulseaudio
starting. Investigation into SELinux continuing.
E.g. SELinux in enforcing mode:
[root@mfleetwo3 ~]# id -Z
unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:SystemLow-SystemHigh
[root@mfleetwo3 ~]# service messagebus status
env: /etc/init.d/messagebus: Permission denied
and SELinux in permissive mode:
[root@mfleetwo3 ~]# service messagebus status
dbus-daemon (pid 2736 2055) is running...

Mike

It used to work just fine in both analog & IEC958 modes. It was working
as of night of 4/29-4/30.
Overnight, however, the / filled up due to several large xbmc core
dumps. Last night the sound stopped working, which led me to discover
the filled up partition. After cleaning up about a gig, the digital
sound still doesn't work. Analog sound works just fine, though.
Somewhat interesting to note - when I enable IEC958 in the volume
control panel, the receiver switches from analog mode. (the computer is
an HTPC, both analog & digital outputs go to the receiver). I suppose
it's possible that the receiver died, but I feel software cause is much
more likely.
I didn't find any smoking guns in /var/log/messages - the only
audio-related message was about pulse not being able to run with real
time priority (which is normal, from what I gather)

PolicyKit - Authorizations - VNC - Add/Remove - Non-Root User
by Ron Gonzalez
I have a problem where a non root user
logging in on a VNC Server Session cannot access Add/Remove Software.
Sure, I can run yum to do what I need to do, and I've already searched
the forum threads and found the following
1. you must login to the actual console, using a non-root user to modify authorizations.
2. You must modify the perms for PackageKit
I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding what the actual steps are
and what is actually preventing me from running Add/Remove. I have
attempted to set a lot of settings in Authorizations.
For instance, I have set for
Update Packages ->>
Anyone Yes
Console Yes
Active Console Yes
The exact error message is as follows:
Package installer is running when the session is not active
These applications should be run only when on active console.
This normally indicates a bug with your remote desktop implementation.
I have also added my non-root user under Explicit Authorizations with no restrictions.
Still, when i log in to a VNC session after modifying these settings, and I still get the same error.
I also have a question related to how the authorizations take effect.
Do they take effect immediately?, OR
Do I need to restart Vncserver service OR
Do I need to restart the X server? OR something else?
Thanks again.
Ron
Im at my wits end with this thing and I have found another thread Called F10 Headless Servers with no real solution at the end. Reference : http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=197339
/* RANT ON
I can't help but think that all of this policy junk on a default
install of the Linux Operating System is akin to microsoft's
implementation of the standard unix operating philosophy of operating
as a non-root user. If we want to tighten up our security, then we
should have tools such as Policy Kit to do this, and I am assuming that
this is PolicyKit that is preventing me from running this and not some
other bug. But its ridiculous to try the linux community in the same
fashion that Microsoft treats the average household user.

F11 upgrade - worse than Windows
by Timothy Murphy
I'm trying to upgrade a Thinkpad T23 (with preupgrade) from F10.
Everything went fine until "Finishing upgrade process",
which has been running now for 14 hours,
with that ghastly imitation-Windows yo-yo swinging from side to side.
I am told, "This may take a little while" !!!
Please, this is Linux.
