Preventing ConsoleKit from interrupting audio when switching consoles.
by William F. Acker WB2FLW +1 303 722 7209
Hi all,
I use speech output for reading the screen. Currently, I'm using
espeak compiled to use portaudio. Whenever I switch consoles, I have to
wait a few seconds for audio output to resume. I understand that
ConsoleKit is responsible for the delay while it figures out if I'm the
same user and should be allowed to use the audio device.
If anyone knows how to disable this behavior, or knows fore sure that
ConsoleKit can't be configured to accomplish this, I'd really like to hear
about it. With respect, what I don't need to hear about is how desirable
folks think the current behavior is and how I should learn to love it too.
Pulseaudio won't help either, until it can be made to run
system-wide.
TIA.

Suddenly I can't play audio CDs in F11.
by Aaron Konstam
I can mount data CDs and play DVDs when inserted but when I insert an
audio CD no icon appears on the Desktop and no audio playing occurs.
I checked the previous messages on this problem and the last one said:
Dumb question, you did check the state of the option to play audio CDs
when inserted, right? Under preferences?
Well I can find no such option under System->Preferences.
Where is it or is there some other resolution of the problem. This used
to work.

Am I being punished?
by Timothy Murphy
I'm running a dual boot Windows/Fedora system on my Thinkpad T43.
Whenever I run Windows, I find my time is 1 hour out
when I return to Linux.
Is this my punishment for consorting with the devil,
or is there a simple solution?

fedoraproject.org down (ipv6 only)
by Michael Cronenworth
I see fedoraproject.org has a AAAA record now (how new is that?) but the
IP is not responding today. Access to fedoraproject was working up until
today so I'm not sure if the AAAA record is brand new today or if it's
just down.
$ ping6 fedoraproject.org
PING fedoraproject.org(2610:28:200:1::fed0:1) 56 data bytes
^C
--- fedoraproject.org ping statistics ---
11 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 10721ms
I cannot use yum in this situation. I can access http://ipv6.google.com
just fine.

Fedora 11 and GDM - unwanted list of all users and impossible to customize ?
by jaivuk
Hello guys,
I did not use gdm for some time and now I'm not happy how it looks in Fedora
11.
First of all - the list of local users is unacceptable from security
reasons. Even if it supports such "an " option - how it can be the default
one?!
Second problem I have is shutdown button (and possibly restart as well) -
when you click on shutdown button by mistake, system will shut - there is no
confirmation dialog.
I also tried to find some ways how to customize gdm in Fedora 11 but I did
not find any usable guide.
Can anybody please advise me how can I have prompt asking for username only
(showing last logged user at maximum) and not displaying the list of all
local users?
Also can I somehow add confirmation or remove shutdown restart buttons from
gdm screen?
Or can you please advise any alternative to gdm?
Thank you very much,
Jan
