strange file in /tmp
by Suvayu Ali
Hi everyone,
I was trying to clean my /tmp with tmpwatch and noticed a really large
file sitting there, and I have no clue what could have generated that.
Anyone has any ideas?

mplayer option for sticky window
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
I was wondering whether its possible to invoke mplayer from the cmd line
with the sticky window (or visible on all workspaces) bit set?
I couldn't find any obvious option in the manpage. Is there any?

Hi, Frank!
In the provided sendmail.mc file there's an option:
define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp.direct.ru')dnl
I thought it relays all my outgoing mail to ISP smtp server. Or am I
wrong here?

I not know what are Your USB devices:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 1784:0006 TopSeed Technology Corp.
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0461:4d0f Primax Electronics, Ltd
But when lsusb print same output regardless webcam is connected or no,
then there is some weird, device should be listed, no matter when it's
driver exist or no.
Which distro and kernel version You have?
Isn't cable to camera too long?
You tried connect it to different USB ports?
Also, when You have notebook/netbook, there may be situation, when USB
ports aren't capable supply sufficient power to USB device (I suppose
that webcam hasn't own power supply). You may disconnect unnecessary USB
devices from Your PC and try connect webcam again.
Also You may try connect webcam to other PC (booting e.g. from Fedora
Live CD). When lsusb isn't present on it, You can use command:
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

no reboot after update fedora 10
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
After I update a fedora 10 to fedora 11, I get:
File "/usr/sbin/yum-updatesd" . line 41. in <module>
from yum.config import BaseConfig. Option, IntOption, ListOption,
BoolOption
ImportError: No module name yum.config
an I cannot boot.
So I tried to install a more recent version of yum and yum-utils
yum-3.2.24-2.fc11.noarch.rpm
yum-utils-1.1.23-1.fc11.noarch.rpm
from another system by using:
rpm -Uvh new_install/yum-3.2.24-2.fc11.noarch.rpm
yum-utils-1.1.23-1.fc11.noarch.rpm --dbpath /mnt/linux/var/lib/rpm
But it does not solve the problem: still cannot boot !!!!!!!

"Connection activation failed: Device not managed by network manager"
by sumatheja
Hi All,
I'm using dell inspiron with fedora 13. With great difficulty
i have installed drivers for the wireless card. Now it does detect the
network and in fact i was able to connect to the network once. But
after rebooting it's detecting the wireless network (activated) but
unable to connect. When i tried restarting network service its
throwing the error pasted in the subject line. Any help on this would
be appreciated.

F14 - Changing GDM Background
by Sawrub
Hello All,
Setting default GDM background was a little easy till F12 by using the
'Set as Default' button, but i can't see it there now in F14. Please
rescue me to change it.
Is there any way to set the same for the playmouth, so as to have one
background right from the time when booting starts.

partition gone !
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I do not understand what did happen.
I have a logical partition whose the hierarchy seems to have disappeared.
Here is the result of testdisk:
Disk /dev/mapper/VG1-home - 9663 MB / 9216 MiB - CHS 18874368 1 1
The harddisk (9663 MB / 9216 MiB) seems too small! (< 9698 MB / 9249 MiB)
Check the harddisk size: HD jumpers settings, BIOS detection...
The following partitions can't be recovered:
Partition Start End Size in sectors
Linux 924 18875291 18874368
Linux 1824 18876191 18874368
Linux 2416 18876783 18874368
Linux 2934 18877301 18874368
Linux 3558 18877925 18874368
Linux 4090 18878457 18874368
Linux 4638 18879005 18874368
Linux 5356 18879723 18874368
Linux 5862 18880229 18874368
Linux 6598 18880965 18874368
When I mount it is just empty.
Before I made a restorecon -R -v /home
In addition, before the partition was visible from one
system (fedora 10) but not from another fedora 10.
I also notice that when every thing was OK it was mounted as
/dev/dm-6/home and not as it was supposed to be: /dev/VG1/home.
I have done something wrong but I cannot understand what !
While the geometry would have change ?
I also run a fixfile.
The other strange thing is also that only this partition became wrong.
while the mounting by using dm-x was for all the partition while
it was supposed to be /dev/VG1.
I can recover the partition because there is a backup but I would like
to understand !
Thank.
