Btrfs compression
by Valent Turkovic
Hi, AFAIK btrfs compression is enabled via mount option. I'm now
installing Fedora 13 beta on / partition formated As btrfs. During
install there is no option for compression. If I add compress option
after install is there a way to compress data that was saved during
the install?
Cheers!

I'm curious what a PHX2 is. My Googling wasn't informative.

FC12 on Proliant DL760
by rowan
I am guessing since my e-mail address on file with the Fedora Project
didn't match the e-mail "From" below is why this didn't make it to the
list. I'm trying a third time.
I'd sent the e-mail below apparently to the wrong address.
I downloaded the DVD image, burned it, verified the media after burning
then tried to install on the Proliant DL760.
The error says there are no disks to install FC12 onto, prompting me to
load a driver. It displays a lengthy list of drivers but nothing
specific to the Compaq Proliant. Under CentOS the Smart Array
Controller is referenced as /dev/ida/c0d0, I don't know why FC12 isn't
recognizing the Compaq RAID controller.
Can someone tell me how I can get FC12 to install on my Proliant?
TIA

I've been trying to install FC12 on a 4 processor Proliant DL760.
I tried the net install CD having the DVD mounted on another server
exported with NFS but that failed.
I copied the files to a SCSI disk and tried installing from /dev/sda1
but that fails also, I can't remember the error, something about mismatch.
I downloaded and burned the 5 CD iso images to CD-R media. Booting from
disc 1 FC12 asks me to load a driver or choose where to install from
displaying the /dev/sda1. It appears FC12 doesn't see my CDROM drive any
longer as it's source for installing.
I also tried removing the CDROM and installing a CD-RW/DVD, FC12 boots
and gets to the same screen wanting to load a driver or continue
installing from /dev/sda1 which fails with the mismatch.
Anyone have a tip on how to install FC12 on a Compaq Proliant DL760?

gnome-vfs-smb -> huge nested folder transfer failures
by KC8LDO
I have a fully updated Fedora-11 32 bit OS install. The problem I have is
when copying a huge folder, a hundred or so nested folders inside the top
level folder and around 13000 files for about 2.6 GB of data, over the local
network using Nautilus to connect to a network share. The transfer gets
anywhere from 700 MB to around 1 GB then fails. A few times I saw a message
about some "dbus" time out error.
I can skip using Nautilus and use the KDE smb4k to do the transfer and it
works just fine. The only difference seems to be gnome-vfs-smb is hanging
when doing the transfer through Nautilus.
Has anybody experienced this problem and how do you fix it? I ended up
pulling in half of the KDE desktop just to use smb4k which I really didn't
want to do but I know it works.

I need help to get my parallel port working.
by Mark LaPierre
Hey All,
I can not get my parallel port to connect to my printer. The printer
was working with F8. Then I upgraded to F10. The printer has not
worked since.
Now I have F12 32 bit installed. I've tried everything I can think of
including messing with the CMOS settings from Yes PNP OS to No PNP OS.
When I first started trying to diagnose this problem I used the
System/Administration tools to debug the printer problems. Several
problems, such as incorrect file ownership, were found and corrected.
Now I get no further issues when I print but I also get nothing coming
from the printer. The printing queue says that the job is "Processing"
but askes, "Is the printer connected?" Remember, this is the same
printer, and same cable that was working with F8. Only the software has
been changed to confuse the innocent.
I've uninstalled the printer driver and cups, rebooted the machine,
reinstalled cups. Downloaded a current copy of the Linux driver from
the printer manufacturer and installed the driver. No joy. :-(
I've spent a couple of days poking around the internet looking for help
with this issue. I've found a lot of people having problems getting
their parallel printers working with F12 that had worked with previous
versions of Fedora but none of those posts have helped.
Here is the results of the poking around that I've done.

New boot failure
by Gene Heskett
Greetings all;
My shiney new F13-beta 64 bit install on my HP dv5120u laptop is now failing,
losing all response to a plugged in mouse, the touch pad and keyboard at
about the time it draws the bottom bar on the screen, showing only the 4
workspace icons and the trash can. No other buttons or menu icons get drawn.
The HD activity led is stuck on.
The only response is to the power button after the 4 second delay.
Is there a recommended way to recover? It has been fired up about every 3
days to install updates, but is otherwise as installed, so it could be
considered a failed test.
