F16 & Gnome3 problems
by JD
AT last I had the opportunity to fully upgrade f14 TO f16 via DVD.
There were not problems reported during upgrade.
Upon reboot (which took forever), I never got the gnome login
screen. Screen remains blank (black).
I believe it may have to do with my video card (old Radeon Mobility 9600).
This does not happen in f14 with gnome 2.x
Thanx for any hints/info on how to get around this problem.
P.S:
I have not yet tried

Problems with F16 getting Ethernet Manual Mode
by Aaron Gray
Hi,
Installed F16 and TFTP is working correctly now which is nice:)
Had problems with xinetd and tftpd on F14 and F15, had to use a work around
directly calling tftpd deamon.
Now I am having problems with my second ethernet controller as I am trying
to set it up to be a gateway.
Normal Ethernet configuration via the GUI is not allowing me to set
ethernet to Manual Mode. Basically the "Save" button is grayed out.
And if I set it to "Disabled", ifup does not work.
ifconfig and ifup results below.
Help, if its not one thing its another I have had to redo the configuration
for PXE several times now over past 8 months, from F14, to F15 and now to
F16.
Many thanks in advance,
Aaron

Hacking Xorg.conf
by John Aldrich
Ok, for some reason (probably because I'm using an old KVM switch) my Fedora
16 system is not detecting what monitor I have and is refusing to give me a
usable resolution. I have a Dell E2210H wide-screen monitor and it's capable
of 1920x1080 resolution, but I can't get that in Fedora.
Under Windows, the monitor is also not identified, but I AM able to get the
maximum resolution.
I have hacked my xorg.conf in an attempt to get it to display, but it's still
not working. Here's a copy of my xorg.conf (I copied it over the nvidia-
xorg.conf after backing up the nvidia-xorg file as well.):

Isn't there supposed to be an initramfs for 3.1.2-1?
Is this a bug?
If there's supposed to be one, if so, how can I generate one? Once I have, do I need to reinstall grub?
Grub conf looks like this:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
# root (hd0,0)
# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/sda8
# initrd /initrd-version.img
boot=/dev/sda
default=0
timeout=8
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

Fedora 16 preupgrade problem?
by Michael D. Setzer II
I have a test machine with Fedora 15 x86_64 and ran preupgrade
and all seemed to go fine. But after reboot, it comes up with the
grub menu and option to upgrade to 16, but then selecting it just
results in a blinking cursor in the upper left. No messages on
screen, no disk activity.
Currently downloading DVD image, but that saying it will take 5
hours more.

Problem with readline (command line editing)
by Suvayu Ali
Hi evryone,
Suddenly today I noticed several of the readline bindings are not
working any more. I have not made any customisations either through
~/.inputrc or through bind statements in my ~/.bashrc. I have tried
rebooting, logging in as a freshly created user. Neither of them helped.
To illustrate my issues, neither of the following work:
1. forward-word - M-f
2. backward-word - M-b
3. forward-search-history - C-s
4. yank-nth-arg - M-C-y
5. yank-last-arg - M-.
6. transpose-words - M-t
7. upcase-word - M-u
8. backward-kill-word - M-<DEL>
9. kill-word - M-d
While compiling the above list I realised its all the keybindings with
the Alt (meta) key. Any ideas what went wrong?
