Audio CD ripper -
by Bob Goodwin
I have a number of CD's that I need to transfer to flash drives. I
did this a few months ago but can't recall what I used to do the job?
K3B works but it's rather cumbersome to use.
I see several other app's that look as though they should work but
don't, e.g. grip, sound-juicer, asunder. They seem to have trouble
finding the cdrom drive and I'm not sure they are any faster to use
than K3B. But it seems they ought to work.
[bobg@box9 ~]$ asunder
Error: Couldn't open /dev/cdrom
Error: Couldn't open /dev/cdrom
Error: Couldn't open /dev/cdrom
Grip produces an error message:
Err0r: Unable to initialize [/dev/cdrom]
Sound-juicer says "Unable to read the CD"
There is no problem listing contents:
[bobg@box9 media]$ ll
total 8
drwx------. 2 root root 4096 Feb 13 11:57 disk
drwx------. 2 root root 4096 Feb 13 11:59 disk-1
Any suggestions?
Bob

SELinux for mock
by Piscium
I like to rebuild a number of Fedora source packages for performance
and some tweaking.
In the past I have used rpmbuild for that purpose, but this weekend I
started using mock.
So far I built about a dozen source packages successfully, but then
got a SELinux snag when building glibc (I am using the targeted policy
on F14).
The wiki has instructions on how to set SELinux for mock:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Using_Mock_to_test_package_builds#SELinux_p...
I followed the instructions but the result of running Make was
different from the expected, there was an error. [1].
My question is if the policy files of the wiki page are current? They
are three years old, which is a long time in dog years or Fedora
years!
I wonder if anybody could tell me where to get updated policy files as
I am not proficient on SELinux? Or maybe can I just ignore the error
and use what I got as a .pp file was created?
(I am using this after installing mock so if there was no error the
next step per the wiki would be:
restorecon -R /var/lib/mock /usr/bin/mock
I have not done the above yet.)

MailX Fedora14+
by Frank Murphy
How can I set the users mail (mailx)
to go to a specified email address automatically.
Have tried adding /home/user/.forard
with content of:
some(a)ispemail.com
This is so users cron jobs results\errors can be collected remotely.
The root was done using /etc/aliases

Sarg RPM for Fedora 14
by Manish Kathuria
Hello,
Where can I find the Sarg (Squid Analysis Report Generator) x86_64 RPM
for Fedora 14 ? The common repositories don't seem to have it and
couldn't find anything using Google too.
Thanks,

mouse wheel events?
by Tom Horsley
Is there something in evdev somewhere that needs tweaking for
mouse wheel events? It seems like I have to furiously spin
the wheel (actually it is a ring around the ball on my trackball)
for apps to pay attention and start scrolling.
If I run xev, however, I see the button 5 and 4 press and
release events without any furious spinning of the mouse.
Are toolkits trying to collect enough events to make
sure I really meant it before they start scrolling or what?
Just curious here (but hoping there is a setting I can
tweak :-).

fedora on lenova T520 w nvidia optimus ?
by Genes MailLists
Interesting looking laptop - and the msata drive thing looks like a
(reasonably priced) way to add SSD for root partition (leaving regular
drive for data).
So does anyone know what works/not works ?
Esp the Nvidia Optimus NVS 4400m - the dual intel + nvidia graphics.
I have not heard much about the VGA switcheroo (assume its needed
here) - maybe its possible to disable the intel graphics in BIOS ? If so
will nouveau work on this ?
Thanks for any insights ..

Are you sure you have the tarball from a reliable source? When I open a
tarball from this[1] Mozilla mirror, I find shell scripts and shared
libraries with proper file permissions inside.

gccsense in the yum repo?
by H Xu
Hello everyone,
It's really tough to compile gccsense by oneself. Would it be possible
to add it to the yum repo?
Thanks.

fscache
by Mag Gam
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has been using FS-cache with ext4.
I keep getting this message,
CacheFiles bind failed: errno 95 (Operation not supported)
dmesg shows:
CacheFiles: Security denies permission to nominate security context: error -95
Would I need to downgrade to ext3?

Changing the gid and perms on a device
by JD
I have a flash disk which is detected as /dev/sdc
I need to use it as a virtualbox device.
So I created a vmdk for the disk and registered it.
Furthermore, virtualbox requires that in order to use
the device, the device must belong to the group
vboxusers.
So I chmod'ed it to vboxusers.
But somehow magically, it reverts back to being
owned by the group disks.
I have disabled selinux. So I have no idea what/who
is changing it back. This is the reason why I am asking
this list. The virtualbox list does not seem to have
an answer.
