how do I test laptop internal hard drive from Knoppix DVD?
by Darlene Wallach
I cannot boot my laptop into grapical mode and text mode with my
internal hard drive.
I am using a Knoppix DVD to write this email.
Is there a way for me to use the Knoppix DVD to test the internal hard
drive of my laptop?
Thank you

Problem with extensions in thunderbird-5.0
by Joachim Backes
Hi all,
I'm running F15 with thunderbird-5.0, and I'm having problems to install
a thunderbird extension file (suffix: xpi) by the TB extension manager:
if trying "tools->add-ons->extensions", there is no button for
installing a xpi file.
It seems I'm doing something wrong.
All comments are welcome.
Kind regards

some questions about apache and tomcat
by Benedict S
Hello,everybody.
There is no packages about mod_jk-ap20 in our fedora rpm packages. How can I
connect apache with tomcat, using http_proxy ,ajp_proxy or something
else?Which method is the best way to use it?
When i start tomcat6 with command "service tomcat6 start " or "run_init
service tomcat6 start" ,the tomcat6 was running under the context of
"system_u:system_r:unconfined_java_t" and the web's applications can't run
successfully. I found there is no module about tomcat and neither in
refpolicy-2.20101213.Should I write some policy for tomcat6 or there is
something wrong with my method.
Thank you very much.

JACK/FC15-64
by Elliott Chapin
I was fine with FC14-32, but the only way I've managed to start JACK is
by having Ardour do it rather than jackd:
Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
Cannot connect to server socket
jack server is not running or cannot be started).
-----------------
A well-known problem with a goofy solution that I hope I won't need for
too much longer.
Not much if any news in this, Nonetheless I'll be interested in what
people might have to say...

createrepo update?
by Stephen Berg (Contractor)
The createrepo package that comes with Fedora 15 (0.9.9-3) is unable to
generate repos using SHA1. This has caused me to downgrade createrepo
to the Fedora 14 version (0.9.8-5) because the system hosts some local
repos for Scientific Linux 5x.
Is there anyone getting a fix in the pipeline? I found bugs 718218 &
500364 that are already reporting this issue but I can't find anything
in updates-testing to indicate there's a fix on the horizon.

Where's the Junk
by Chris Kottaridis
I am running Fedora 14 using Evolution connecting to an IMAP server on
the same machine that is using Mailbox type Maildir.
In evolution there is a Junk mailbox and I have filtering set in
evolution to filter for junk. When something meets the junk criteria the
mail shows up in the junk folder via evolution and not my inbox.
I just cretaed an account on my cell phone to the same IMAP server
account and on my cell phone the junk mail shows up in the INBOX.
I went perusing the Maildir for my account and I can't find any kind of
Junk folder. I see all the ones I have created, but not the Junk folder,
and in fact nothing that is obviously an INBOX either, though I am sure
there is one.
So, where does IMAP store the INBOX and how does evolution handle it's
Junk mailbox ?
Seems like there is an INBOX somewhere, that I just can't seem to find,
and that evolution just tags email in there as Junk in such a way that
it shows up in evolution's Junk mailbox, but not evolution's INBOX. But,
since my phone knows nothing about the evolution Junk "tag" it sees the
email in the INBOX.
Thanks

binding socket fails when run under ptrace?
by Tom Horsley
I just tried to run an "rsh" command under strace, and it
always gets permission denied when it tries to bind the
socket (fedora 15 64 bit). Is this some new helpful
security feature I've never heard of?
tomh> strace -o working.trace rsh tomh date
rcmd: socket: Permission denied
From the working.trace file:
socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_IP) = 3
bind(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(1023), sin_addr=inet_addr("0.0.0.0")}, 16) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
not under strace:
tomh> rsh tomh date
Tue Jul 26 08:56:29 EDT 2011
Here's the kernel:
tomh> uname -a
Linux tomh 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Jul 6 13:58:54 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Selinux is turned off, so that can't be it.

nessus and systemd
by Reindl Harald
F15 systemd writes only this in the log which is not very helpful
systemd[1]:
PID 7284 read from file /var/run/nessusd.pid does not exist
Your service or init script might be broken

on F14 you get
