alias ip make eth lose its default gw
by Pablo Pérez Fernández
hi,
we have eth1; in the beginning it was proposed to create from eth1,
eth1.2500 and eth1.240. It did not worked cause vlan 1.2500 was not
tagged in the switch.
so they decided to leave eth1 like a physical interface with eth1.2500
config (removel vlan tag) and create eth1.240
but it did not work because when eth1.240 is up , the eth1 lose it´s
gateway using eth1.240 gateway. manually we get to assing its gateway
but its a temporal solution , cause if service network or server is
restarted it turns back. we need a permanent solution.
i attach how is the config done:
Code:
FH0089:root:/etc/sysconfig# cat network

/etc/sysconfig/network
we looked for a file which could affect including a route by default
but we didnt find it.
i rebooted the server, and i´ve been thinking about using this command
/sbin/ip route flush table all
but i think if i already rebooted after erase all eth1.240 (route too)
files it would be useless
i would like anybody help me cause i´m in a hurry

Restoring grub after Windows install
by Christopher Svanefalk
Dear all,
I will have to install Windows on my desktop, which is currently running
Fedora 17. The problem with this is that Windows overwrites the MBR (there
is no way of opting out of this afaik), and hence my grub as well. How can
I reinstall grub after I install windows, so that I again can get a boot
screen where I can select either operating system? Thanks in advance!

Hello:
How did you run grub2-install?
It is very important to know the error message.
Regards.
Max.

So last day I got around to installing Vista. The last 12 hours have convinced me that this is arguably the worst operating system ever made, and booting back into F17 was bliss. I have not tried Windows 7 very much (only really use Windows at all if Wine will not give me a smooth solution).
Reinstalling Grub with the F17 seems to be broken by the way...grub2-install throws an error. I did not record it unfortunately, but I am assuming it can be fixed. If nothing else, it is not problematic to use an earlier version for recovery unless you need Grub2.

What license? AFAIK, none of the Windows licenses forbid running in a VM.
Most versions of Windows don't make any provision for it.
this is simply wrong
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/virtualization.aspx
Licensing the Windows Desktop Operating System
For Windows operating system software licensed through retail (FPP) or preinstalled on a PC (OEM), Windows use
rights are outlined in the Software License Terms that accompany the software. These license terms provide use
rights to run Windows locally on the licensed device in a virtual operating system environment (OSE); however they
do not provide use rights for accessing Windows running remotely in a virtual OSE from the licensed device, and are
limited in other ways when compared to virtualization use rights provided with Windows Software Assurance, Windows
Intune, and Windows VDA licenses acquired through Microsoft Volume Licensing. For example, neither FPP nor OEM
licenses permit remote access to a Windows virtual machine (VM) running in a datacenter. For this, a license
obtained through Microsoft Volume Licensing is required.

I'm trying to configure dynamic dns on my test/backup machine (CentOS
5.8). I'm using Zoneedit DNS.
I've been trying to setup ddclient; the error message that I get is:
Jun 26 15:20:09 xxxxxx ddclient[28467]: WARNING: file

Or should I use ez-ipupdate?
Thank you.

Software Update....
by EGO-II.1
Have a bit of an issue. Not sure how serious it is, but I'm hoping
someone can point me in the right direction. Here's the skinny:
I "Check For Updates" and it shows me that there's 1 update to install.
The name of the update is called: "Collada 3D Import & Export Libraries"
openCOLLADA-0-12.svn871.fc16(32-bit)
The error message I get after it fails is:
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires libMathMLSolver.so.svn838
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires libOpenCOLLADAStreamWriter.so.svn838
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires libGeneratedSaxParser.so.svn838
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires
libOpenCOLLADASaxFrameworkLoader.so.svn838
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires libOpenCOLLADABaseUtils.so.svn838
1:blender-2.59-5.fc16.i686 requires libOpenCOLLADAFramework.so.svn838 :
Success - empty transaction
My System:
Gateway T-6321 Laptop
3GB Max Total Memory
Running Gnome 3.2.1
Fedora 16 - Kernel: 3.4.2-1.fc16.i686 #1 SMP
Anyone have any ideas? Not sure if I have to install the listed items
individually, or if they all come in this same package that won't
update.....awaiting anyone input, and thanx in advance!

Installing Fedora on a USB connected Harddrive.
by Mickey
Fedora 17 new install on a USB connected hard drive.
I have Dell Dimension 2400 with WindowsXP installed, But !! I can't get
this Dell to Boot off a CDROM.
by even setting up BIOS to boot off CDROM.
Yes the CD is a Bootable CD. If you read the CD from within WindowsXP
it will read the the files on the CD.
I was thinking about taking hard drive out the Dell and USB connect the
hard drive to another Computer and do a resize of WindowsXP and install
Fedora on hard drive and setting up the hard drive as a Boot drive ,
then put it back into the Dell 2400.
The Dell hard drive is a IDE drive and My computer is SATA so I can't
put the Dell hard drive in my PC.
Will it Work ????

OP might be working for behavior-analysis-department or P&O ;-)
