Fedora 17 sound issues
by linux guy
I installed Fedora 17 today. Finally got it fully updated.
Sound works fine when I run the test sound in Settings-> System
Settings -> Multimedia-> Phonon Internal Audio Analog Stereo.
I have no sound from apps in a KDE session.
$ uname -a
Linux XPS.localdomain 3.4.4-3.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jun 26 20:54:56
UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Everything looks find in alsamixer.
Any ideas on getting sound working in my session ?
Thanks

Fedora 17 "BIG CRASH"
by Mickey
Fedora 17 Crashed big Time, I installed Fedora for a friend and Three
days later it Crashed.
Ai Boot startup it would Stop at Rescue Grub. After further
investigation I found that label for / and /home Partitions had neen
changedf to "UNKNOWN" .
I'm very concern about the /home partition that has some very important
data that needs to be retrieved .
I always setup my Fedora Boxes with a / /home swap , three
partitions , that way I can do a next version of fedora fresh install
on / and Users data will be left untouched by not Formatting the /home
partition.
THE BIG QUESTION HERE IS, Can i do a fresh install by puting the labels
back to / and /home from "UNKNOWN" and Save the Users Data in
/home Or can I assume that the Users Data is LOST !!
My friend say the Data Has got to be SAVED. If I can't do it he will
have to take the hard drive out to someone that can. I have talk him
into using a /Backup hard drive on his new computer

is this more likely a kernel-bug or rsyslog?

Leap Second
by Michael Cronenworth
Hi all,
I recommend that anyone not familiar with the term "leap second" check
out all of their Linux systems. Most likely a piece of software is
running in an infinite loop due to the added second on July 1st. Your
system may also appear to be running normally but double-check your
system load to make sure it is less than 1.00. I had several affected
systems so Fedora was not ready (and I didn't bother to ready my systems).
If you have high system load there are two solutions:
1. Reboot, or...
2. Manually set the date with "date". Ex: "date 07021025" for July 2nd,
10:25 AM.
FYI,

Is it possible to setup read-only root ?
by John Wendel
Is it possible to setup Fedora, using Fedora provided tools/software,
with a read-only root partition?
There's an ancient wiki entry from the FC6 days that indicates that some
work was done, but I would assume that this depended on the SysV init
system. I've haven't seen any mention of read-only root setup with systemd.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Ooops! My apologies for sending this twice. Not awake, or too much
coffee or whatever. The question still remains however.

google chrome 20 / flash player / full screen
by Kernel Guardian
After last google chrome update I have problem to display any flash
contents in full screen mode. After investigation in chrome://plugins I
find 2 plugins under flash. One is from google installation directory
PaperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so and second one is in
flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so.
Verisions are:
libpepflashplayer.so - 11.3.31.109
libflashplayer.so - 11.2 r202
For now only solution I found is to disable PepperFlash from chrome and
leave flash-plugin enabled.
Fortunately Firefox is not affected with google PepperFlush bug.
