Partitioning between SDD and HDD

Hi
I am looking forward to rebuild my system.
I want to buy a SSD to place all fixed, operating system files in there and
use the HDD for my Data and variable operating system files.
looks like /home and /var should go on the HDD.
Can I have a small ramdisk to place /var/run or would it cause instability
issues if I try to hibernate/sleep the system?
This would be a desktop system, right now I am tripple booting
Ubuntu/Win2k/Fedora on it.
Another question, is it possible to combine the /boot partition of Fedora
with the one of Ubuntu 12.04? I think both are using grub2 nowadays, or
would it be asking for endless trouble?
What partition scheme would you recommend? How big an SSD would I need?
I look forward to a system that boots faster and works faster when starting
up programs and such, and I want to minimize wear and tear on the SSD (I
understand they have a limit on rewrites)

KDE Network icon disappeared

I'm running Fedora-17 KDE.
The network icon in the system tray in my panel
has disappeared, and is not listed among hidden icons.
This happened once before, and I seem to recall
that some kind soul told me how to recover the icon.
I tried yum-reinstalling NetworkManager
(and kde-plasma-networkmanagement-libs)
but that didn't seem to do the trick.
Any enlightenment gratefully received.

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace -

I have a new Fedora-18 64 bit XFCE Live install and and I find that
ctrl+alt+backspace does not work. Is that expected?
I need that function with my equipment. I have two Saitek
illuminated keyboards the have done strange things when I switch the
color/brightness since F-16. After the color/brightness is toggled
to max I have to log out and in again using ctrl+alt+backspace. This
on two different computers. On this F-17 box I can log out/in that
way, not on the new F-18 install.
How can I change that?

Installing F18 Beta on Dell XPX 15z

Hello All,
I am trying to install Fedora 18 Beta x86+64 on my Dell XPS 15z, and
would appreciate any help.
I am running this laptop on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. This needs the following
parameters on the 3.2.34 and later kernels to make the screen work:
*acpi_backlight=vendor dell_laptop.backlight=0*
On earlier kernels, it was solved with;
*acpi=noirq*
The default installation does of Fedora `8 not work, it displays a
noveau error message and hangs.
*nouveau 0000:01:00.0: 0xD581: i2c wr fail: -6*
It went beyond this just once (not sure how/why), and failed with the
following;
*no medium found on /dev/sr0**
**dracut: FAIL : Failed to mount block device of live image*
Questions
---------
How do I get to edit the kernel parameters at install time, so that I
can try the acpi switches ?
Do I need to give additional kernel parameters for dracut to read the DVD ?
Also, has any one successfully installed F18 on the Dell XPS 15z ?
