OT: Hard drive warning at boot time
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
Today, I am getting this message at boot time:
"Notice - HD self monitoring system has reported that a parameter has
exceeded its normal operating range. Dell recommends that you back up
your data regularly. A parameter out of range may or may not indicate
a potential Hard. Press F1 to continue , F2 to enter setup"
Is there any reason to be worried about?
My computer is about 3 years old.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

biosdevname strikes again :-).
by Tom Horsley
Aside from the 3 or 4 updates to biosdevname that changed
the "immutable" names, I've just found another fail:
I replaced my motherboard and since this one has native
gigabit, I didn't re-install the separate NIC.
Naturally, my one and only ethernet interface
is now called em1 instead of p6p1.
This really worked infinitely better before they
solved this problem. All I had to do was remove
the 70-persistent-net udev file and let it get
automatically regenerated from scratch.

pulseaudio multiple outputs?
by Tom Horsley
My new motherboard seems to have a audio system that
is friendlier to alsa and pulseaudio. For the first
time ever I see both HDMI and S/PDIF listed as
possible outputs when I run "gnome-control-center sound".
They even both work when I test the speakers.
Since I no longer seem to need low-level kludgery
to get S/PDIF output, I'm now wondering if it is
possible for different apps to output to different
outputs using pulseaudio?
Can I have my normal system beeps and wot-not
going to HDMI, but tell mplayer to output to
the S/PDIF output? If so, anyone have any
examples of the syntax I need to use on the
mplayer command line?

Working twitter client
by Steve Searle
My preferred twitter client choqok doesn't work at the moment because it
has not been updated to support the new authentication method that
twitter now insists upon. I have tried the others listed by a "yum
search twitter" command and can't get any of them to authenticate
either.
Is anyone currently using a working twitter client? I don't like the
browser page - I want my feed updating automatically.
Thanks
Steve

How to find out the size of my computer hard disk?
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
How can I see the total disk size of my hard disk?
I have used the following command:
# fdisk -l | grep Disk
Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes, 1953525168 sectors
Disk identifier: 0x0003dd50
Disk /dev/mapper/fedora_new--host--5-swap: 6274 MB, 6274678784 bytes,
12255232 sectors
Disk /dev/mapper/fedora_new--host--5-root: 53.7 GB, 53687091200 bytes,
104857600 sectors
Disk /dev/mapper/fedora_new--host--5-home: 939.7 GB, 939712839680
bytes, 1835376640 sectors
#
Should I conclude that the size of my hard disk is 1 TB?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Setting up Install Process
*No package libgtk2.0-dev available.*
*Error: Nothing to do*
[root@localhost libview]# yum install gtkmm-2.4
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Adding en_US to language list

How could I get their *rpm files?
I will really appreciate for your help.
Thank you so much,
