Yum: a suggestion
by Timothy Murphy
Yum only tells me the sites it has _failed_ to download from.
Wouldn't it be nice if it also told us which sites _succeed_?
I'd like to know who to be grateful to.

Trouble setting up kickstart
by Michael Larsen
I'm trying to set up a kickstart server on my home network. I can't get
network booting working. DHCPD and tftp are working, but the tftp request
on the client is timing out with:
PXE-E32 TFTP open timeout
I've googled the heck out of this issue and can't find a fix. I was hoping
someone here could help me out.
My dhcpd.conf file:
#

# see dhcpd.conf(5) man page

But no boot.
During my research I saw a post somewhere that talked about tftp having
issues with some RealTek network cards. The kickstart server is running a
controller with the RTL8101E/RTL8102E chipset. The poster said he fixed his
problem by setting the tftp block size explicitly to 512, but I've been
unable to determine how to do so.
Are there any obvious errors in my configuration? If not, can anyone advise
how to set the tftp block size? Thanks in advance.

grep by paragraph
by Timothy Murphy
Is there an option for grep, or some similar program,
that will print out a whole paragraph -
defined as the section between two blank lines -
containing a given word or phrase?
Such as the above 4 lines.
If not, can anyone suggest a simple script that will do this?

modprobe
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I would like to run modprobe -v i8k at each reboot.
How can I do it automatically?
Thank.

issue with large inodes numbers in at least gnucash and pan (32-bit versions).
by Roger Heflin
I have recently created a new 6tb XFS filesystem.
After this gnucash, pan and a number of other utilities (on one of the
32-bit machines) start failing to work and complaining about value too
large for defined data type.
I have found someone else that indicated this ment that the tools
needed to be complied with this flag:
-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64
This samba alleged bug was from the same issue.
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7707
Currently these are the only 2 applications I have so far found...this
is on a fedora 19 NFS mounted 32-bit machine.
I suspect that I may find a few more applications that have the same
issue, I have a workaround of using the application on a full 64-bit
machine that does not appear to have this issue (I am assuming that
full 64bit uses 64bit for file offset by default), but whoever is
running the compile streams for the 32-bit rpms may need to start
setting this flag.
Most of the default tools (cp, mv and others) appear to be working
right, it is just a few things that are acting up.

ooolatex (openoffice)
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I am not sure that it is the right list to post this, but please let me know.
Under openoffice (fedora 19). when I try to create an equation (by using ooolatex [4.1.1.2]),
I get an error:
BASIC runtime error.
Property or method not found: getDocumentInfo.
In the macro (OOolatexTools):
' Function to manipulate information from "Doc Properties".
' There is two actions :
' "Get" : return the preamble or the configuration as string
' "Delete" : return the "doc info" without preamble or configuration
Function DocInfo( sAction as String, sWhat as String) as String
DocInfo = ""
Is DocInfo not set properly?
Thank for your help.

Thanks for your response, Xinyun. Yes, I disabled SELinux and the firewall
for testing during setup:
[root@kickstart ~]# cat /etc/sysconfig/selinux
# This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
# SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
# enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
# permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
# disabled - No SELinux policy is loaded.
SELINUX=disabled
# SELINUXTYPE= can take one of these two values:
# targeted - Targeted processes are protected,
# minimum - Modification of targeted policy. Only selected processes
are protected.
# mls - Multi Level Security protection.
SELINUXTYPE=targeted
[root@kickstart ~]# systemctl status iptables.service
iptables.service - IPv4 firewall with iptables
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/iptables.service; disabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
Aug 27 19:21:50 kickstart.larsenhaus.org systemd[1]: Stopped IPv4 firewall
with iptables.
[root@kickstart ~]# systemctl status ip6tables.service
ip6tables.service - IPv6 firewall with ip6tables
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ip6tables.service; disabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
Aug 27 20:09:48 kickstart.larsenhaus.org systemd[1]: Stopped IPv6 firewall
with ip6tables.
I figured out how to set the block size to 512 but it didn't help. Any
other ideas would be appreciated. :-)

Fwd: efibootmgr cannot save boot options
by 某因幡
Hi, I just installed Fedora 19 on a SONY PRO 13(SVP13219SC).
Secure boot is off. But it won't boot into Fedora, only boots into Win8.
So I boot Fedora Live from USB and tries to setup mannually.
# efibootmgr
.... <-- cannot find entry of Fedora
# mount /dev/sd3 /boot/efi
# ls -l /boot/efi/EFI/fedora
... <-- looks good, there are necessary files
# efibootmgr -c -l 'fedora' -p 3 -i '\EFI\fedora\shim.efi'
# efibootmgr -v
... <-- looks good
Then reboot, but it still goes to Win8. This situation loops.
