Successfully activated service 'org.freedesktop.PackageKit' ?? why?
by Paul Cartwright
I see this message in /var/log/messages over.. and over... and over. I
saw a red hat bugzilla forum from fedora 15 on up talking about this
with no resolution.. Is there a resolution??
the messages say:

pdf to eps (unknown switch using pdf2ps -eps)
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have been trying to convert pdf to eps using
pdf2ps -eps file.pdf
but I get the following:
Unknown switch -eps - ignoring
Unknown switch -eps - ignoring
I seem to think that this worked just fine a month ago, but maybe I
used some other switch.
What am I doing wrong?
I am on Fedora 20, all updated as of last night (21:00 CDT).
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

CPU / GPU fan control
by Rafnews
Hi,
i didn't get any answer regarding the FAN control of my CPU/GPU to avoid it
to run at 100% all the time, when i'm just watching a movie or reading on
internet.
where can find some good information about it ?
i read something about powersaving tool with thinkfan but i don't know why
it doesn't seem to work...and powertools are terminal commands as far as i
understood.
so have you already solved something like that before ?
does it really work ?
thx.

Can't read CTR while initializing i8042
by Amadeus W.M.
I have this old Dell Inspiron 2650 with a dual boot Fedora 12 and XP and
I want to upgrade Fedora to 20. When I boot from the installation dvd I
get this message:
[ 13.167548] i8042: Can't read CTR while initializing i8042
then it continues to boot and I get to the first installer screen
(welcome to Fedora 20, select language) but as one might expect, I can't
select anything neither with the mouse nor with the keyboard.
I get the exact message when I try to boot up Fedora 12 and I have the
exact problem, neither mouse nor keyboard works. They work before booting
up Fedora (e.g. in the bios) and also in XP, so it's not (entirely) a
hardware problem. I don't remember if it ever worked in F12, but at least
I was obviously able to install it.
I did do a google search on this and some posts said it's a false,
inconsequential error, others provided kernel patches, others messed with
the bios. Only thing I can do in the bios is change the boot order, set
the time and disable the parallel port.
Any suggestions? Some kernel options? Thanks!

honestly, what in the name of mutt is so slow about fedora rawhide?
by Robert P. J. Day
following up on my recent posts about how painfully, excruciatingly,
nad-grindingly, thigh-suckingly slow firefox is on fedora rawhide,
well, nothing's changed. when i do something as simple as switch
tabs, i can go fix myself a martini while waiting.
so ... what can i do to debug this? i'm using a non-debug kernel, i
have nothing else of any significance running, "top" doesn't show
anything else hogging resources ... so now what?
if i recall correctly, fedora 20 worked just fine, while i wouldn't
wish fedora rawhide on someone holding me up at gunpoint.
please ... thoughts?

in regard to my system fans picking up speed
by c. marlow
I posted earlier about my fans running a bit hard when I open firefox.
I deleted the emails on accident so im sorry im having to make this a
new topic.
But I dont think my system ran hard on Ubuntu. ( but I used KDE then)
but it seems like when I log in to MATE on F20 my fans pick up more of
a bit faster speed than on the log in screen.
I have cleaned the cobwebs out and everything earlier towards the last
part of march but here is my Sensors readings:

Unable to get projector to work
by Henrik Frisk
Hi all,
I reaqlize that the info I'm giving here might be to little to give any
good suggestions, but I'm giving it a try nevertheless. I have a MBP with
the following graphics card:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 650M Mac
Edition] (rev a1)
I have no problem connecting to a second screen (VGA, Nouveau), but when I
connect to a projector (VGA) it doesn't show up at all. No, I don't have
the models of the two projectors I've tried with, but I did have the same
problem with my other computer and Fedora 15 (that time I was running
NVIDIA drivers).
Am I missing something obvious here? I wasn't clever enough to look at
Xorg.0.log yesterday when I tried the projector (I've been looking through
it now but I can't seem to find the right place), but I will next time and
perhaps I can provide better information.
Best,
/Henrik
