how to run xrandr command at startup
by CS DBA
Hi all;
I want to run an xrandr command at startup.
I Tried these solutions with no luck:
1) added command it to /etc/rc.d/rc.local (as a script with #!/bin/bash
as the first line)
created a soft link from /etc/rc.d/rc.local to /etc/rc.local
systemctl start rc-local.service
2) added command to /etc/kde/kdm/Xsetup
chmod a+x /etc/kde/kdm/Xsetup
Neither of the above solutions work
I'm running Fedora 21, KDE spin (64bit)
Thanks in advance for any help...

IPTables not starting automatically with F21
by Philip Rhoades
People,
I have got a script that quickly sets up iptables for me - firewalld is
too complicated so I have been uninstalling firewalld and activating
iptables for the last couple of versions - this worked fine for F20 but
although I have done:
systemctl enable iptables.service
the service doesn't start automatically on rebooting and I have to start
it manually - is there some change for F21 I am missing?
Thanks,
Phil.

Fedora 21 Live & Xfce 4.11 x64
by poma
Development of the Fedora involves people across the planet.
Therefore, this compilation I share with you includes available language components.
That is, more present than focused.
As for the applications the emphasis is on the current Xfce version and its components.
You will notice some are already ported to GTK+ 3.
Over and above some frequently used in everyday life as, complete LibreOffice suit, Firefox, Thunderbird, Mousepad, Parole for multimedia, FirewallD, a sizeable amount of fonts, full printing and scanning support including OCR - gImageReader & tesseract.

audoi card for william austin
by Howard Howell
HI, everyone,
I have a friend who is heavily into audio, and this is his
recommendation:
I would suggest getting any of the new 48/96/192kHz audio cards
available for PCI-E (SoundBlaster Audigy RX for example) and then
getting
an inexpensive USB midi device such as the M-Audio Midi Sport Uno or
1x1. If more midi ports are needed M-Audio has 2x2 and 4x4. Separating
the audio and midi will open up all kinds of options for product
selection.

Can't get tftpd working
by Robert Moskowitz
I have two F21 systems on the same subnet. Client and server.
On the server I created a directory /root/tftp with 777 permissions.
I have opened up the tftpd service with the firewall gui interface and
firewall-cmd --zone=public --list-all
shows services includes tftp (I am assuming here that firewalld knowns
that tftp is a udp app)
The server is running tftpd in foreground under sudo:
in.tftpd -Lc4pv -s /root/tftp
The client connects with 'tftp server' and gets tftp> prompt. A status
shows the client is connected to the server (thus firewall is allowing
connection). But a put fails with 'Transfer timed out'.
There are no messages logged. I have tried increasing verbosity with
'vvv' but no logging.
I have even created a file on the server under /root/tftp and tried to
'get' it, which also timed out.
So what am I missing here?

Wine installation
by Angelo Moreschini
Hi,
I used* gnome-software* to install Wine.
Now I have on the desk top an icon of "wine" that I can launch.
If I search for wine, I have this output:
--
[angelo_user@zorro ~]$ sudo find / -iname "q4wine"
[sudo] password for angelo_user:
/usr/bin/q4wine
/usr/lib64/q4wine
/usr/share/doc/q4wine
/usr/share/q4wine
find: ‘/run/user/1000/gvfs’: Permission denied
/home/angelo_user/.config/q4wine
----
The problem come when I use the application (when I launch wine)...
...then I get some messages of error that say the application is not
properly installed.
The first one is:
-------
Cannot find or execute the 'wine' binary. Make sure that this binary is
available by search PATH variable and see also INSTALL file for application
depends.
-------
After this messages come a wizard to help me to do the set up of Wine...
The first steps of the wizard ask me :
- wine bin:
- wine server:
- wine loader:
- wine libs ..:
I am not able to set correctly this data .... (for example wine server in
not installed).
So I am confused .. because gnome-software don't seem it made the
installation.... also gnome-software didn't get me a .rpm file to use for
the installation...
What I have to do ???

Angelo

extremely slow shell starts (trying to debug, dbus related)
by Neal Becker
On my server, after updating f20->f21, shell startup is _extremely_ slow.
Using strace, it appears that the problem is dbus
08:22:57 connect(5, {sa_family=AF_LOCAL,
sun_path="/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket"}, 33) = 0
...
08:22:57 recvmsg(5, 0x7fff640c3970, MSG_CMSG_CLOEXEC) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource
temporarily unavailable)
08:22:57 poll([{fd=5, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000) = 1 ([{fd=5, revents=POLLIN}])
08:23:22 recvmsg(5, {msg_name(0)=NULL,
msg_iov(1)=[{"l\3\1\0013\0\0\0\4\0\0\0m\0\0\0\6\1s\0\7\0\0\0:1.1155\0"...,
2048}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=MSG_CMSG_CLOEXEC}, MSG_CMSG_CLOEXEC) = 179
08:23:22 write(6, "\1\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
Notice the 30second wait for a response from dbus?
Also in /var/log/messages, various dbus messages such as:
Dec 30 08:19:32 nbecker7 su: (to root) nbecker on pts/0
Dec 30 08:20:02 nbecker7 dbus[809]: [system] Connection has not authenticated
soon enough, closing it (auth_timeout=30000ms, elapsed: 30004ms)
Any hints?

Fedup issues
by Robin Laing
Overall, I say that this worked pretty good.
Two machines different problems.
First machine, F20 to F21. Full procedure followed and install went
almost 100% perfect. Only issue remaining is that I have two F20
kernels listed via rpm but not when I run yum list kernel.
I removed on kernel with yum and they were all listed. Now I cannot
remove any others by yum.
I have rebuilt the rpm database
rpm --rebuilddb
On the second machine, I removed the F20 kernels from the lowest number
to the highest, one at a time.
Machine seems to work perfectly.
Machine 2.
Dual boot, Win 8.1 / Fedora.
While running fedup, is stuck at the end. Before the shutdown and
reboot. Don't know what happened but after two hours of sitting there,
I shut down.
On reboot, machine couldn't find the grubenv. I found a bug and
followed some of the instructions and now it boots.
Before I got to this point, I couldn't boot into any of the F20 kernel
listed and the rescue mode wouldn't let me mount any of the unused
partitions automatically.
I removed the old kernels using yum one at a time from the lowest
version to the latest.
Only issue that I see to have right now is that the /home/user
partitions are not mounting but fstab doesn't look like it was changed.
I will have to check pam-mount configuration.
Don't know if encryption has had anything to do with this.
Only 3 more machines to do. Two from F19 to F21. Will find out if
encryption has anything to do with this.

yum fails with pycurl version error
by Alex
Hi,
A recent fedora20 update broke yum:
# yum update
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:
pycurl: libcurl link-time version (7.29.0) is older than
compile-time version (7.32.0)
Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.
It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.7.5 (default, Nov 3 2014, 14:26:24)
[GCC 4.8.3 20140911 (Red Hat 4.8.3-7)]
If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to
the yum faq at:
http://yum.baseurl.org/wiki/Faq
Any ideas what caused this or how to fix it?
Thanks,
Alex
