Mate DT - Workspace Switcher Died
by JD
So, I got a banner sating that workspace switcher died.
I clicked on Restart in the banner.
It did not restart.
I rebooted the machine and logged back in.
Still the switcher did not come back on.
How can I restart it manually?
I find no "switcher" anything in
/sbin and /bin.

What Seriously Ails Fedora
by JD
One of the reasons why users wince at the prospect of upgrading is the
numerous problems being encountered.
Some of these problems seem to stem from the fact that not all installed
rpms of the current release (let's say 21) are made available in f22.
Now the user mosies on thinking all is well. Until some updates come
up later which will prevent those updates from being installed, because
of the dependencies of packages installed in the previous release upon
packages which are still of the previous release vintage. As you all know,
the dependencies do not satisfy the requirements of only one package, but
possibly of several other packages. Thus the update of certain dependencies
will fail because a remnant or remnants from the previous release has/have
no presence in the new release's repo.
So, I am wondering if the thought has even crossed the minds of the fedora
project architects/managers/directors to properly address this issue.
I have been a victim f this particular issue ever since the early fedora
core
days.
I suggest that the fedora project consider either
1. the creation or porting of the previous release packages and their
dependencies into the new release
OR
2. the deprecation of packages that will not see the light of day in the
new release, and creation of replacements for them.
That said, I am totally against the elimination of those packages from the
user's system just to please the update and upgrade processes. Somehow
fedora project needs to come up with a scheme to let the previous
release's packages
and their dependencies to continue to live and work in the new release and
subsequent releases without raising any problems or errors for updates and
upgrades.

System log files
by Mike Chambers
On my machine that runs as a server, it was on F21 and using dnf,
upgraded it to F22, no issues for most part except for my log files not
rotating. I first seen this as I was no longer getting any emails from
that machine via epylog. So I ran epylog cron manually and it said all
my modules were disabled. So I started investigating and this is when
noticed my files didnt' have anything in them.
It seems that my log files in /var/log are not populating like they
should, such as messages, maillog, etc. Now I know if I run journalctl
or whatever I can see messages or whatever that is from that command.
So something isn't starting or I need to do some quick edit to a config
file or something to use journald or whatever?

Fedora 22 - Switched to KDE on Fedora, still starts with GNOME
by Kevin Wilson
Hi, all,
I had installed Fedora 22 on x86_64 machine.
I had installed kde by "dnf install -y @kde".
I had selected kde by swithcdesk.
I had rebooted and still it starts in GNOME.
switchdesk from x windows shows that KDE is selected.
I made another reboot, selecting "plasma" from the scroll option
dialog in the boot screen, still
it logged into Gnome and not KDE.
Any ideas ? something similar to this used to work in Fedora 21, IIRC.

Kevin

Is this bug valid? Are other people seeing this?
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1216264
I'm just switching from another distro, so I'm not sure if I have it set
up correctly, but I'm seeing that same behavior.

Install fails with /dev/mapper/live-rw does not exist
by Alex
Hi,
Trying to do an f22 Live Workstation install on my new Toshiba P50
laptop and the install fails with:
[ 187.874987] localhost dracut-initqueue[471]: Warning: Could not boot.
[ 187.891048] localhost systemd[1]: Received SIGRTMIN+20 from PID 472
(plymouthd).
[ 187.893397] localhost dracut-initqueue[471]: Warning:
/dev/disk/by-label/Fedora-Live-WS-x86_64-22-3 does not exist
[ 187.893565] localhost dracut-initqueue[471]: Warning:
/dev/mapper/live-rw does not exist
[ 187.897504] localhost systemd[1]: Starting Dracut Emergency Shell...
So, it boots off the DVD, so it's not a problem with the drive. I've
also tried various boot options including pci=nomsi, nommconf and
libata.dma=1 without success.
I've included the rdsoreport.txt output here:
http://pastebin.com/BrqeMY4w
Perhaps someone can take a look for any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex
