DNF is a time waster
by CLOSE Dave
If I run something like, "dnf -y install xxxx", and xxxx is already
installed, DNF gives a response like the following.
Last metadata expiration check performed 0:00:02 ago on ...
Package xxxx is already installed, skipping.
... (long delay, sometimes several minutes) ...
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Complete!
That is, it works but it takes an unreasonably long time to do so. How
can it be that, DNF knows the package is already installed and /still/
takes such a long time to decide that dependencies are ok? There aren't
any dependencies to resolve!

ANNOUNCE: sylfilter on Fedora 22/23/24/epel-7
by Ranjan Maitra
I just wanted to announce that sylfilter was accepted and put on updates-testing for the above releases a few days ago. Please test and provide feedback if possible.
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?packages=sylfilter
I have been using syfilter for a few years (actually, this rpm itself) and have found it lightweight and pretty good. Hope you like it too!
Best wishes,
Ranjan

modify crappy partitionning
by thibaut noah
Hello, i currently have a performance issue (slow vm and system) due to a
crappy partitionning i did on my fedora install, wish i knew better at the
time.
So basically i have two disks, one ssd and one hard drive.
My ssd partitions :
/dev/sdc1 ext4 /boot
/dev/sdc2 lvm2 pv root
/dev/sdc3 ext4 /home (this is not currently mounted)
my hard drive partitios :
/dev/sdb1 lvm2 pv Home (it includes apparently the swap too)
here is my fstab
http://ur1.ca/oohd9
Following the thread here :
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/50007/how-to-change-home-direct...
I created a new partition (sdc3) where i rsynced my /home and i tried to
mount things.
It does indeed mount without error it seems but i cannot boot on it.
I assume the problem is coming from lvm and the swap partition but i have
no clue how to solve this, could someone give me a hint please? (if it is
fixable of course).

PulseAudio
by Richard Ibbotson
Hi
I know a lot of people don't like PulseAudio but that's what comes
with Fedora 23. My problem is this. After a dnf update I find that
selinux has done something it didn't do before. PulseAudio has ceased
to work properly. I'm looking at a dummy output the sound card is not
found by PulseAudio in my workstation.
I've tried to set permissions for PulseAudio in selinux. This allowed
the sound server to start up when I did 'service pulseaudio restart' .
Then there was some kind of error message about some keys not being
created. Still no sound.
I've seen this somewhere before but can't find it on the internet with
a search. Tried the PulseAudio site. Can anyone point me in the right
direction with this ? Also tried man pulseaudio. Nothing useful there

x2go alternative
by Joseph L. Casale
I haven't been able to make x2go work on Fedora with xfce from a windows
wkst for several releases. Currently if anything requiring a gui needs to be run
on the Fedora wkst remotely from a windows box I just ssh with x11 forwarding.
The problem that remains is if I need access to the currently running console
session on the Fedora wkst to access a running gui based application.
What alternatives to x2go exist to permit this?
Thanks,

philosophy
by François Patte
Bonsoir,
I am wondering what is in mind of packagers.... I have just fought for a
couple of days to have the printing service working on a fresh fc23
install.
1- cups-browser.service is not enabled by default. cups.service is
enabled but you cannot add printers. ok! With a little work, you can
find why you cannot add printer.
2- Once this service is enabled, you can add your printer: your network
printer is found without any problem, you can find the right driver in
the default printer list.... So far so good! Then you test your install
sending a test page and.... "filter failed"! What does that mean?
3- googleling gives you tons of results and none of them give a
solution: filter failed, filter failed.... What is this filter? driver?
Is my printer too old and none of the new drivers will work? Must I buy
a new printer?.....
4- A light comes to you: "and if it was a firewall problem?" Hurrah!
You have found the solution....
Will it be so difficult in the install process to enable the browser
cups service at the same time the cups service is enabled (and it is
enabled by default)? Is it so difficult to add an accept rule for port
631 to iptables if cups service is enabled or, at least, send a warning
when cups is enabled in order to remember to root to enable port 631 in
iptables rules?
I am just wondering....
Regards.

stuttering/choppy audio/video from chrome/opera
by bruce
Hey guys.
There's a pusleaudio thread, I didn't want to step on.
I've got a system, and for some reason, I'm getting choppy audio when
running opera/chrome. I've gone into chrome, and I have enabled/disabled
the soundflash plugins.. I see 2 in the chrome:plugins for the chrome
browser.
I'm trying to find a soln short of rebooting. Any pointers would be useful..
I've seen this behaviour from a number other people on diff sites.
And yeah, I know this isn't technically a fed issue!!
Thanks in advance for any pointers you might provide on this.

bluetooth speakers connection
by François Patte
Bonsoir,
Is there a tutorial on how to connect bluetooth speakers at login
(fedora 23)
I could configure bluetooth to have sound on my bluetooth speakers via
A2DP but this is not in use at login: I have to open the audio-mixer and
configure the output at every new login.
Is there a way to have the audio bluetooth connection to speakers
permanently configured?
Thank you.

Missing node0 under /sys/devices/system/node
by Kevin Wilson
Hi all,
On a Fedora 23 machine running the original kernel from distro, I see
/sys/devices/system/node/node1
but I **do not** see /sys/devices/system/node/node0.
On other Fedora 23 machines I do see **both** /sys/devices/system/node/node0 and
/sys/devices/system/node/node1
Any idea what can be the reason for this ?

Kevin
