Askbot not sending email notification on first postings
by Chris Murphy
cross posting this on users@ and devel@, I'm not sure who all
regularly participates on askbot.fedoraproject.org as it's mainly user
to user.
The gist of this problem is you set up some keywords/tags and if
someone posts a question with one of those tags, you get an email.
Neat because I don't want emails for every question posted, just the
topics I'm going to be useful answering. Problem is, I don't get an
email notification for the original posting. I only get followup
emails from people answering or commenting to the question.
I already filed bugs upstream and downstream:
https://github.com/ASKBOT/askbot-devel/issues/705
https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/6174
Question is, has anyone else experienced this? It's been a couple
weeks since I posted the upstream bug without a reply and it seems
like a really big bug to be going on this long if everyone's affected
by it. So I'm just curious if this is affecting everybody and they
just haven't ever really realized it, or if it's an isolated case.
Thanks,

I
have never used metapost but using tikz I found this:

Lately
I have been using tikz and I like the final result.

It does not have the pentagons filled with color. This does not make the picture come to life.
There might be some mathematica notebooks out there, but they are not free, and cannot translate to code that we can use such as octave, or maxima. I have found a Geogebra page which does have the filled pentagons
https://www.geogebra.org/material/show/id/AfNmbnDD
But I would prefer it be in metapost. Not all my machines have texlive, not all of them have java as well. I hope that with a bit of time, someone who knows metapost can help translate the code from the hoist point website which is more precise. Or a more solidly colored geogebra one.

libGL mess with nvidia drivers
by Amadeus W.M.
Just swapped nouveau out for the nvidia driver from rpmfusion following
https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA. Basically I did
dnf install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx akmod-nvidia-340xx "kernel-devel-
uname-r == $(uname -r)"
dnf update -y
Reboot and startx and only one (of 2) monitor was working, the other was
blank. I ran
nvidia-config
and this created a /etc/X11/xorg.conf, then restarted the X server and
both monitors are up and running and I'm running the nvidia drivers:
28) root:~> lsmod | grep nvidia
nvidia 10563584 24
drm 348160 4 nvidia
29) root:~> lsmod | grep nouveau
30) root:~>
Now the problems:
30) root:~> glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (NV-GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 4 ()

libGL is too old.
33) root:~>
I think all this has to do with libGL.
34) root:~> ldd /usr/bin/glxgears | grep libGL
libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib64/nvidia-340xx/libGL.so.1
(0x00007f55a0e8c000)
so that points to the nvidia libGL. But I have
35) root:~> ls -l /usr/lib64/libGL.so*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 14 Jul 6 04:12 /usr/lib64/libGL.so ->
libGL.so.1.0.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 14 Jul 6 04:12 /usr/lib64/libGL.so.1 ->
libGL.so.1.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 581840 Jul 6 04:12 /usr/lib64/libGL.so.1.0.0
and
36) root:~> rpm -qf /usr/lib64/libGL.so.1.0.0
libglvnd-glx-0.2.999-19.20170620gitd850cdd.fc26.x86_64
Of course, nvidia provides its own libGL:
37) root:~> rpm -qf /usr/lib64/nvidia-340xx/libGL.so.*
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-libs-340.102-1.fc26.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-libs-340.102-1.fc26.x86_64
Finally, the mess:
38) root:~> rpm -e --test libglvnd-glx
error: Failed dependencies:
libGL is needed by (installed) python2-pyglet-1.2.4-3.fc26.noarch
libGL.so.1()(64bit) is needed by (installed) qt-

libGL.so.1()(64bit) is needed by (installed) glx-
utils-8.3.0-6.fc26.x86_64
and MANY more. So I can't uninstall the libGL provided by fedora, it would
take out too many packages with it, including the X server.
Can I choose which libGL to use with alternatives somehow? How do switch
everything to use the nvidia libGL?
I assume there are people there who are using the nvidia driver right now,
some maybe using the rpmfusion rpms. Can someone post which libGL they
have installed on their system and how they got the whole thing to work?
Thanks!

Problem with K3B.
by Ger van Dijck
Hi Everybody ,
When starting K3B I get the following message :
System configuration problem.
Unable to find cdrskin executable.
K3B uses cdrskin in place of cdrecord.
Solution : Install the libburn package which contains cdrskin.
Question : How to manage and what is the essence of the problem ?
Burning CD's and DVD's works fine.
Kind Regards ,
Ger van Dijck.

So long nouveau
by Tom Horsley
Well I've been using my newly installed fedora 26 boot partition
for all of a half day, and the nouveau driver just completely froze
up the display (exactly the same thing that happened on fedora 24
with nouveau). I guess I'm off to look through the logs for any
info and then install the rpmfusion nvidia binaries.

[F25] Help: latest update broke nvidia driver
by Sherman Grunewagen
After updating my F25 installation (which included installing kernel-10-11-12-200) I can no longer
boot X (w/ startx). rpm -qa | fgrep kmod-nvidia-4.11.12 returns
kmod-nvidia-4.11.12-200.fc25.x86_64-375.66-3.fc25.x86_64
so the kernel module gets built and installed. But I see
Aug 2 21:41:11 pons kernel: nvidia: Unknown symbol mcount (err 0)
in /var/log/messages which I've not seen before. I removed the module with dnf
and rebuilt it with akmods (which again produced the "unknown symbol" message,
and X still won't boot. Is anyone else having this problem? Suggestions for a fix?
