gnome-terminal
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
When I run /usr/bin/gnome-terminal under fc26 (it was fine in fc24)
from a gnome-terminal I get:
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Failed to parse arguments: Cannot open display:
Can I avoid the error ?
Thank

Blue login sreen error FC25
by fedora2015
My 81 year old mother just texted me. Her FC25 boots up to a blue screen
with a message saying "There is a software upgrade available." The
message disappears and the screen remains blue. I am not there to see
it. Any clues as to what is going on?

xmodmap
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
On ly laptop, in fc24, I sued to do:
xmodmap -e "keycode 112 = Prior KP_Home Prior KP_Home Prior Prior"
to change the behavior of a key, but it does not work in fc26
(I have the same issue with
xmodmap -e "keycode 112 = Prior (Home Prior Home Prior Prior")
xev shows
state 0x10, keycode 112 (keysym 0xff95, KP_Home), same_screen YES,
XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 79
while the key which does the same shows:
state 0x0, keycode 79 (keysym 0xff95, KP_Home), same_screen YES,
What is wrong?
Thank.

Weird video glitch with nvidia drivers
by Tom Horsley
I've been noticing a weird and (I'm guessing) totally harmless
video glitch lately. There is one spot on my screen a few hundred
pixels diagonally down from the top left corner where a small
remnant of my mouse pointer can sometimes be found flickering
on an off. If I run the mouse over it, everything goes back to
normal (I haven't yet determined exactly when it happens, but
it sure seems like it always happens in the same place).
I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything like
this happening? (Just curious, not trying to track down
any technical issue :-).

howto re-enable SELinux
by Gour
Hello!
I was playing with some app (ZoneMinder) which recommends to disable SELinux,
but solved my problem with the IP camera by using some app on my tablet and now
would like to re-enable SELinux as it was initially configured.
However, I cannot boot (without passing selinux=0) by just editing
/etc/selinux/config so wonder what is correct/recommended way to re-enable
SELinux on Fedora (f26)?
Sincerely,
Gour

OT: restoring Chrome bookmarks
by Patrick O'Callaghan
For complicated reasons involving changing browsers, my set of Chrome
bookmarks was messed up. Luckily I have a backup of the correct set,
but when I shut down Chrome and do:
$ cp .config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks.bak .config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks
on starting up Chrome it briefly shows the correct bookmarks but within
a couple of seconds the old (bad) set is restored. This is reflected in
the respective files (the .bak is the good set):
$ ls -l .config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks*
-rw-------. 1 poc poc 2216739 Sep 15 15:51 .config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks
-rw-rw-rw-. 1 poc poc 104157 Sep 15 15:51 .config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks.bak
This happens repeatedly, even when I've turned off all extensions and
set the startup preference to not open existing pages. It still manages
to find this bad data somewhere.
I'm using google-chrome-stable-61.0.3163.91-1.x86_64
Any thoughts?

Possible to "dnf upgrade" in a Fedora Gnome without the need to
reboot?
by Wolfgang Pfeiffer
I took the following quote from from the recent thread "Fedora 25 not
booting after update" - didn't want to hijack that thread and therefore
started this new one:

Ditto here: Gnome here (plus KDE installed, but rarely used) and I also
update via dnf only, i.e. I log out of Gnome, log in to a tty, run
"dnf upgrade", and reboot - did you, or anyone else, find a way to
upgrade safely without the need to reboot? On Gnome?
More info, and what got me to upgrade always with a reboot following:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.
org/thread/7ULAG243UNGTOSL6URGNG23GC4B6X5GB/
I'm relatively new to Fedora, and I'm astonished we seem to be on Linux
in a situation now that I had on MS Windows.
In previous times, on a Debian system, I rebooted the machine maybe once
or twice a year (not kidding ..) and it worked - provided I didn't mess
up dependencies with the package manager (I *did* mess it up .. :) .. )
TIA
Wolfgang
