F28 server boots to the grub prompt even after dnf update and grub2-mkconfig
by linux guy
I have an up to date F28 server that boots to the grub prompt. This
started after a failed dnf update.
The computer will boot to an emergency mode command prompt if I set it up
properly from the grub prompt.
grub> set root=(lvm/fedora-root)
grub> linuxefi (hd0,gpt2)/vmlinuz-0-rescue... root=/dev/mapper/fedora-root
grub>initrdefi (hd0,gpt2)/initramfs-0-rescue....img
grub>boot
I can get networking working
#ls /sys/call/net <- find Ethernet device is enp3s0
# ifup enp3s0
# ping www.google.com
Now update it
# dnf update
Regenerate the grub2 config file
# grub2-mkconfig
Reboot
# shutdown -r now
It still boots to the grub prompt.
Why does it boot to the grub prompt and what do I need to do to fix it ?

Old Info?.....
by Eddie G. O'Connor Jr.
Hello all, I don't wanna go into a long song and dance so I'll make this
short and simple:
Running F-29 on Lenovo ThinkPad T420
I've updated and everything is running smoothly
But
When its first starting up?...and it shows the kernels that are
available (along with the rescue option) they're showing as
"Fedora 4.14.xx _27_ Fedora "Workstation"
Is there something I need to do to get my kernel info to reflect the
latest version of Fedora? I mean it's not a HUGE problem, since this is
just the laptop I'm trying to learn C++ and Python on....but its just
something I noticed and was curious to know if something is wrong
Thanks for any help in advance
Cheers!

auditing network traffic
by Tim
Hi,
If I want to check on how much data my computer's been putting through
my ISP over the last few days, is there anything logged by default that
I can look at, or do need to install something extra?

F29 fails on new ThinkPad P72
by dsavage@peaknet.net
I just bought a ThinkPad P72 "mobile workstation". To see if Fedora 29
would work, I made a bootable thumb drive with the 64-bit F29-MATE spin.
It passed the self-test, but the boot stops before going into graphical
mode.
This is a new and just-released system, so it couldn't be tested before
F29 was released. Some tech details:
CPUs Two E-2186M Xeon 6-core 2.9-4.6GHz w/12MB cache
RAM 64GB DDR4 2400MHz ECC
SSD Two 2TB PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 M.2 in RAID1 (Intel on-board controller)
Video nVidia Quaddro P5200
Display 17.3" 4K (3840x2160)
Are any of these known to cause problems with F29?

Fedora Server 29 do not store last history when reboot without
logout
by Dario Lesca
Fedora server 29 minimal fresh install.
If I restart server with "reboot" the last history of working shell is
not saved.
I must remember to do "history -a" to store last commands history
If I do logout the history is correctly stored.
With Centos7 minimal fresh install this behavior do not occur
Is something missing that I should install?
Many Thanks

Fedora 29 (and 28) very slow
by Ron Sigal
I'm having a strange experience upgrading Fedora. I was running Fedora 24, and I upgraded to Fedora 29, one release at a time. After upgrading, I found that the Resteasy testsuite, which normally runs in about 15 minutes, now takes about 45 minutes. A colleague suggested I do a clean install, which I did, but there was no improvement. The testsuite runs in about 15 on my backup laptop with Fedora 28, so I did a clean install of Fedora 28, but, again, there was no improvement.
I'm just bewildered. Does anyone have any suggestions?

strange issues on F28
by Paolo Galtieri
I have 2 systems running F28, one is a laptop the other a desktop. I
rebooted both onto 4.19.2 last week. On the laptop I'm having some
strange issues.
1) When I rebooted the laptop this morning it failed to boot and
dropped into emergency mode. Looking at the logs I see at lot of these
messages:
systemd-udevd[610]: could not find module by name='i2c_i801'
systemd-udevd[612]: could not find module by name='lpc_ich'
.
.
.
The system boots fine on 4.18.18-200.fc28.x86_64
The other system is running 4.19.2-200.fc28.x86_64 without issues.
2) When I view a video with chrome I get no sound, but the same video
played on firefox has sound.
3) When I run pavucontrol the configuration shows 2 entries for built
in audio. It shows "Digital Stereo (HDMI) OUtput" for one and "Analog
Stereo Duplex" for the other. Under "Output Devices" it shows
"HDMI/Display Port (plugged in)" and "Speakers". The only thing I have
plugged into the HDMI port is my monitor so I don't why it should show
up here since it has no speakers. The strange behavior I'm seeing is
that I will turn the HDMI configuration off, but some time later it's
been turned back on.
4) I still can't get chrome to work on the desktop. If I connect to
non https sites chrome connects fine, but connecting to https sites
results in "Your connection is not private" messages. This has been
going on now for over a week.
Anyone else seeing any of these issues?
Any help is appreciated.
