system-upgrade from F27 to F28 downgrades packages
by Martín Marqués
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade one of my machines at home from F27 to F28 using `dnf
system-upgrade` which is failing with errors related with GPG Key signature
failure for certain packages. Investigating I see that all those packages
are to be "downgraded" for some reason:
Downgrading:
hplip x86_64
3.18.3-1.fc28 fedora 16 M
hplip-common x86_64
3.18.3-1.fc28 fedora 108 k
hplip-libs x86_64
3.18.3-1.fc28 fedora 202 k
libuv x86_64
1:1.23.0-1.fc28 updates 133 k
open-vm-tools x86_64
10.3.0-4.fc28 updates 696 k
open-vm-tools-desktop x86_64
10.3.0-4.fc28 updates 182 k
pgbouncer x86_64
1.9.0-1.f28.1 pgdg11 176 k
pgbouncer-debuginfo x86_64
1.9.0-1.f28 pgdg10-debuginfo 338 k
python2-attrs noarch
17.4.0-2.fc28 fedora 51 k
python2-jinja2 noarch
2.10-2.fc28 fedora 531 k
python3-jinja2 noarch
2.10-2.fc28 fedora 534 k
python3-psycopg2 x86_64
2.7.4-1.fc28 fedora 170 k
That seems weird, as I have an F28 system running on my laptop and it has
newer versions than the ones there for all those packages
Also, the packages downloaded seem to be signed with a different Key giving
errors like the following:
GPG Keys are configured as:
file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-27-x86_64
Public key for zstd-1.3.6-1.fc28.x86_64.rpm is not installed. Failing
package is: zstd-1.3.6-1.fc28.x8
6_64
GPG Keys are configured as:
file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-27-x86_64
Public key for zziplib-0.13.69-1.fc28.x86_64.rpm is not installed. Failing
package is: zziplib-0.13.69
-1.fc28.x86_64
GPG Keys are configured as:
file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-27-x86_64
The downloaded packages were saved in cache until the next successful
transaction.
You can remove cached packages by executing 'dnf clean packages'.
Error: GPG check FAILED
Anyway I can fix this without having to reinstall all my system from
scratch?

WATCH-OUT: Converting from BIOS to EFI boot
by Richard Shaw
I recently built a new computer from components and decided to see if I
could convert my install from BIOS to UEFI...
I decided against a manual conversion since I had already seen email
traffic that it wasn't a good idea. Instead I decided to do a new install
on the new M.2 SSD and then tie in my current install on my old SATA SSD.
It took me a number of reboots to get the bugs worked out afterwards but I
got it working and I thought bug free BUT...
I noticed that my computer is still booting an old kernel even though I've
installed 3 kernel updates since. I think I found the problem but can't
verify until I get home so I can watch the reboot but the symbolic link:
/etc/grub2.cfg
Was still pointing to /boot/grub2 instead of /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg
So I'm guessing grubby wasn't updating my grub to boot into the latest
kernel.
Anyway, just thought someone else may try and hopefully find this helpful.
Thanks,
Richard

hplip update problem (missing net-snmp-5.8 update?)
by Eyal Lebedinsky
I note that a recent update ends with:
Problem 1: cannot install the best update candidate for package hplip-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64
- nothing provides libnetsnmp.so.35()(64bit) needed by hplip-3.18.6-11.fc28.x86_64
Problem 2: cannot install the best update candidate for package hplip-libs-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64
- nothing provides libnetsnmp.so.35()(64bit) needed by hplip-libs-3.18.6-11.fc28.x86_64
Problem 3: problem with installed package hplip-libs-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64
- package hplip-libs-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64 requires hplip-common(x86-64) = 3.18.3-1.fc28, but none of the providers can be installed
- cannot install both hplip-common-3.18.6-11.fc28.x86_64 and hplip-common-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64
- cannot install both hplip-common-3.18.3-1.fc28.x86_64 and hplip-common-3.18.6-11.fc28.x86_64

- nothing provides libnetsnmp.so.35()(64bit) needed by hplip-libs-3.18.6-11.fc28.x86_64
My understanding is that the source of this problem is this:
Looking at the packages list I see that the recent update did

gnome menus
by Angelo Moreschini
*Hi,*
*I tried several times in the times to organize the menu of the
application-launchers (the graphic menu system) on my computer, in order to
present it divided into sub-menus..*
*This does not seem to be a simple problem ... (see ..http:
//www.eng.fsu.edu/~dommelen/s6520/menus.html
<http://www.eng.fsu.edu/%7Edommelen/s6520/menus.html>); however this time I
carefully studied the document "Desktop Menu Specification" and following
the suggestions provided in the previously mentioned link I rewrote (after
saving the original) the file "/etc/xdg/menus/application.menu" (it is in
XML format).*
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

*Based on when I had learned, this file should be the creator (at boot) of
the "graphic menu system" that is showed on the screen.*
However, with my surprise, I noticed that the content of the file
"/etc/xdg/menus/application.menu" has no influence on the presentation of
the "Graphic Menu" that is shown on the screen.
....Fearing i I made mistakes with the XML code, I also change this file,
more time, in such a simple way that it is certainly correct.
But when the computer is booted the menu on the screen was always the
original "menu system" created at the installation of the Operating System.
*What is wrong, based on my current knowledge?*
*I hope to get some help to understand correctly the way to work "the Gnome
desktop System".*
*thank you for a kind answer*
*regards*
*Angelo*
*P.S. the problem is only to realize submenus... (working with .menu files)
no problem come me adding new menus (writing .desktop files)*

bis repetita....
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I updated my system yesterday. A new kernel was installed and as the
last time when a kernel was updated, the /boot/grub2/grub.cfg has been
wrongly updated pointing as the root partition an unused partition on my
system.
I corrected this file using grub2-mkconfig. So, my question is: why the
kernel script is unable to correctly use grub2-mkconfig?
Thank you.

File managers in F29 don't see Windows Shares
by Robert McBroom
After upgrade from f27 to f29 the file managers (caja thunar dolphin)
don't show the windows workgroups on my network. There is one on a pair
of windows machines and another on a Linksys NAS. I can manually
access the shares with the appropriate cifs mount command.

Shell script startup strangeness
by Robert McBroom
In f27 there were a few lines before a script would execute. Now in f29
they go on and on and on. Saw a message about a setting that would
control the clutter but I can't remember where.
Here is the hash--

darktable and opencl on f29
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I try to have opencl working with darktable on my f29 system but it fails.
As far as I know, everything suitable is installed on this system and
opencl used to work on f28 with this stuff:

Graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Do I have to install some cuda stuff from cuda repo?
Thank you.
