bootchart-like utility for login
by Jon LaBadie
Is there anything analogous to bootchart but
which works on the period between entering your
password and either getting a shell prompt (for
a CLI login) or a ready desktop environment (for
a GUI login).

Switching to Wayland on F27
by Digimer
Hi all,
I've updated my OS a few times now and it would appear that I am still
on Xorg of Fedora 27 workstation;
From:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/f27/system-administrators-guide/Wayland.html
====
0 digimer@pulsar:~$ loginctl
SESSION UID USER SEAT TTY
c2 42 gdm seat0 /dev/tty1
3 1000 digimer seat0 /dev/tty2
2 sessions listed.
0 digimer@pulsar:~$ loginctl show-session 3 -p Type
Type=x11
====
That link doesn't say how to switch to Wayland, though. When I click
on the gear icon at the login screen, I only have "Gnome" and "Gnome
Classic" as options.
Any hint on how to enable Wayland?
Thanks.

Configuring the installer...
Searching for JVM on the system...
Extracting installation data...
*Running the installer wizard...*
*Can`t initialize UIRunning in headless mode*
*Exception: java.awt.HeadlessException thrown from the

This is a problem about the java environment ?

by Tom Horsley
I saw there was an i686 fedora 28 workstation this time
(didn't fedora 27 drop i686?) and I just installed the
workstation iso as a virtual machine, but if I try to
run DNF, I get this:

postfix relayhost to office365?
by Tom Horsley
I had postfix setup to relay all the mail from my
desktop to the stoopid office365 server we are forced
to use at work. It worked fine on fedora 27.
Now, with everything configured identically
on fedora 28, postfix can't seem to send out any mail.
I don't suppose anyone else has this combo working?
I get errors like this when I enable extra debug
output for talking to the office365 smtp server:
May 6 14:29:05 tomh postfix/smtp[406521]: starting new SASL client
May 6 14:29:05 tomh postfix/smtp[406521]: name_mask: noanonymous
May 6 14:29:05 tomh postfix/smtp[406521]: smtp_sasl_authenticate: smtp.office365.com[40.97.24.18]:587: SASL mechanisms LOGIN XOAUTH2
May 6 14:29:05 tomh postfix/smtp[406521]: xsasl_cyrus_client_get_user: Tom.Horsley(a)concurrent-rt.com
May 6 14:29:05 tomh postfix/qmgr[406467]: warning: private/smtp socket: malformed response
Strike a familiar note with anyone?

Install fails -
by Bob Goodwin
.
I put /Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-28-1.1.iso on a flash drive using
the Fedora Media Writer and started the installer on an updated Fedora
27 computer, The process starts without a problem after doing the
initial check but stops when it does:
"Started User Manager for UID 1000." then nothing more and eventually
keyboard/mouse stop next the screen goes black ...
I thought perhaps it is a problem running from USB and made a DVD copy
of the same file via K3B and saw the same result.
What should I do now? All I can think of is to wipe the existing system
off the drive, but intuitively it seems the existing system should not
matter.
Suggestions?
Bob
