Anyone have a favorite archive manager?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
Fedora 28
Xfce 4.12
I have several large tar balls
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 todd users 6359558528 Jul 12 10:51
2018-07-12_OurStuff.tar.gz2
I have to deal with. They only extract (t or x) with the
command line "tar" command and crash both file-roller
and xarchive manager.
Anyone have a favorite GUI tar ball reader that will work with
large files?
Many thanks,

Cannot login anymore/GNOME crashes after switching user
by rugk
I experience the following issue in Fedora 28:
1. Login as usual.
2. Lock the user session. (not logout, just "switch user"/lock)
3. Login to another user.
4. Logout of that user session.
What happens:
I cannot login to the first session anymore. GNOME or so does not seem to only crash once, but any time I try to login afterwards. This is very strange, because I'd expect it to just start a new session if the old one crashed.
I also cannot login to any other user anymore, afterwards.
The only way to work around the problem is to restart the whole device.
This is what the system protcols application shows me after a restart:

So may I report it as a bug? If so where? Rather GNOME or gdm or something at Fedora what?

Trouble with selinux, tomcat, and apache
by Peter Boy
In F28 I try to connect from an Apache to a tomcat container, both installed on the same server, using AJP protocol, but SELinux denies access.
I (try to) use standard port 8009:
[root@camena ~]# semanage port -l | grep http
http_cache_port_t tcp 8080, 8118, 8123, 10001-10010
http_cache_port_t udp 3130
http_port_t tcp 80, 81, 443, 488, 8008, 8009, 8443, 9000
But a look at audit.log shows:
type=AVC msg=audit(1532760423.923:2154): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=6231 comm="httpd"
dest=8009
scontext=system_u:system_r:httpd_t:s0
tcontext=system_u:object_r:http_port_t:s0 tclass=tcp_socket permissive=1
The same happens if I try to connect using a non-standard port (8210, after using semanage to add that port to http_port_t). It is the identical message besides the dest.
*aAfter* I delete the local modification using semanage -D I get:
type=AVC msg=audit(1532759778.298:2149): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=985 comm="httpd"
dest=8210
scontext=system_u:system_r:httpd_t:s0
tcontext=system_u:object_r:unreserved_port_t:s0 tclass=tcp_socket permissive=1
On RHEL7 / CentOS7 everything works just fine.
I couldn’t find a clean search the web. So, any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Peter

clone
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I did this ton of times, but this time, it does not work.
I even just did it last week on an EFI system without problem
Before updating my system (now in fedora 26), I cloned by using another live system.
cp -a /root1 /root2 (after mke2fs)
cp -a /boot1 /boot2
The /home /tmp are on other partitions
/root1 has the entire system
and /boot is a boot partition
I modified the fstab file properly
and I run grub2-mkconfig
The new system is detected properly (I can also edit grub.cfg to try to boot
on the right partition)
But, I cannot boot on /root2 (using the /boot1 or /boot2)
Is is a relabeling issue?
How can I relabel from grub2 ?
It seems that using touch /root1/.autorelabel
I can only relabel the partition /root1 (and not /root2)
As I said, I did this tens of times.
Thank.

grub2-mkconfig
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
If I run a system on VolSys1-root, and if I run grub2-mkconfig
with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=VolSys0/root nouveau.modeset=0"
in /etc/default/grub
I get in grub.cfg
linux16 /vmlinuz-4.16.11-100.fc26.x86_64 root=/dev/mapper/VolSys1-root ro rd.lvm.lv=VolSys0/root nouveau.modeset=0
Is it not an issue ?
Thank

System hung over night
by Robert Moskowitz
When I woke up this morning at 5:30 to head to the airport, I heard my
system fan going at full speed. I tried to log in to the locked system,
but no response. I had to power cycle. Looking back in messages, the
last messages were right after 4am:

And then nothing until the restart. Any recommendations on where to dig
to guess at what caused this?
Last night I had done an update and had rebooted the system, so it was a
fresh boot, but with all my processes running.

strange error on shutdown
by Paolo Galtieri
I was in the process of rebooting my system after doing an update and
got the following:
error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon
dracut Warning:
/lib/dracut-lib.sh: line 1088: /sbin/rdsosreport: No such file or directory
You might want to save "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt" to a USB stick
or /boot
after mounting them and attach to a bug report.
To get more debug information in the report,
reboot with "rd.debug" added to the kernel command line.
Dropping to debug shell.
shutdown:/#
At this point anything I type is not displayed, but the output is.
For example
shutdown:/# sh: child setpgid (4318 to 4318): Permission denied
It then displayed the output of the ls command which I had typed.
So what does this mean, and what should I do if I see this again?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paolo

I boot on /root1 (because I am unable to boot on /boot2).
and run
chroot /boot2 (after monting the partition), but I get:
Error, do this: mount -t proc proc /proc
/bin/basename: missing operand
Try '/bin/basename --help' for more information.
Error, do this: mount -t proc proc /proc

Try '/bin/basename --help' for more information.
Why I cannot make a chroot?
Thank.
