Banshee music player fake tagging
by Tony Nelson
The Banshee music player banshee-2.6.2-30.fc28.x86_64 has numerous
problems beyond becoming unresponsive at startup 2 out of 3 attempts.
It often (I think not always) only pretends to set the id3 tags in a
music file. It remembers the tags somewhere itself, but when the
file is downloaded to a player, there is no tag in the file. I have
verified this with id3info and id3v2.
I'd file a bug, but there seems no point in filing a bug against a
Gnome project in Fedora's bugzilla, and Banshee doesn't seem to be
using bugzilla.gnome.org but some new thing (which might be why all
the bugs seem old) and I can't be bothered to open yet another account
just because Gnome runs things badly. It's not as if anyone actually
care's about Banshee, or it would start up properly. If you care,
make a new account and report the bugs; I'm just informing Fedora
users.
Don't use Banshee. I certainly won't anymore, after wasting hours
on it lying about setting the tags.

dnf upgrade issues (F28)
by Jarmo Hurri
Greetings.
Typically any issues I have had running dnf upgrade have been solved
behind the scenes pretty quickly. Now I have had two persistent issues
for a while in F28 (clean install). Output of "dnf upgrade" is currently

I do understand that there are probably command line options that would
fix the situation for me, at least temporarily. But I would not like to
resort to them, and I also think it would be a sign of quality / favour
for future users of F28 if these issues were fixed at their source. Any
ideas about how I should proceed?

Adding subnet to firewalld drop zone
by Danny Horne
Hi all,
I've been trying to add a subnet to my firewalld drop zone because
queries from this subnet have been filling up my named logs and I've had
enough!!
Based on research these are some assumptions I've made -
Adding a subnet to a zone makes it an active zone
Zones with subnets take precedence over those with interfaces attached
connection refused resolving
'243.32.237.94.bb.barracudacentral.org/A/IN': 64.235.145.15#53 << In
this example 64.235.145.15 is the source IP (am I right?)
This is what I've done to try and achieve what I want -
firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=drop --add-source=64.235.144.0/20 (I've
researched this, subnet is correct)
firewall-cmd --reload
I'm still getting queries to my DNS servers from this subnet though,
what have I missed?
Thanks for looking

Increase grub font on a hi res screen
by PropAAS DBA
Hi all;
I've done this on a new thinkpad with a 3840x2160 screen but it had no
affect on the grub boot text
# grub2-mkfont -s 14 -o /boot/grub2/DejaVuSansMono.pf2
/usr/share/fonts/dejavu/DejaVuSansMono.ttf
# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
Then I did this (changed the -s font size) but still no change
# grub2-mkfont -s 14 -o /boot/grub2/DejaVuSansMono.pf2
/usr/share/fonts/dejavu/DejaVuSansMono.ttf
# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
Can someone point me to how to properly change my boot / grub font size?
Thanks in advance

OT: trace/extract vector points from a picture
by olivares33561@protonmail.com
Dear kind folks,
I took a picture of alligator/crockodile? boots that have a nice stitched drawing. I would like if any drawing/picture expert can help me get just the part of the gator/crock from the drawing? Also if the points/coordinates could be obtained to recreate the drawing on clothing like a shirt it would be awesome. I can send the image as an attachment if anyone is willing to help.
Best Regards,
Antonio

F28 gnome-documents spins, shows nothing
by Eric Phetteplace
I have a variety of online accounts - Microsoft (1), Google(2), Microsoft Exchange(3) and IMAP(1)
At one point, gnome-documents was working. I saw it populating all of my OneDrive documents. I turned off the "Documents" option in my online accounts, figuring I didn't want to use gnome-documents at the moment. I turned off "Docs" for all my online accounts.
When I open gnome-documents now, I expect to see the "Getting Started" document.
But, all I see is a spinner in the middle of the app, and nothing else, ever.
I created a fresh F28 and added the OneDrive online account and gnome-documents is working as expected.
On my machine I tried uninstalling and reinstalling gnome-documents, and I rebuilt the tracker db, but still nothing.
Any suggestions?
Relevant logs below. This is similar to an issue reported at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-documents/issues/5 but I don't ever see in the logs which file is not found.

CPU hard lockups and shutdown issues on new thinkpas P52s
by PropAAS DBA
I have a new Thinkpad P52s running Fedora 28, I'm seeing numerous
startup, shutdown and lockup issues. It is useable but sometimes I have
to boot 4 or 5 times before I can continue without a lockup. Also it
almost never powers down before it locks up with a CPU hard lockup
Some of the messages I have in /var/log/messages are here:
messages:Aug 6 14:27:16 P52s kernel: nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: Pointer
to TMDS table invalid
messages:Aug 6 21:22:44 P52s kernel: watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#6
stuck for 22s! [Xorg:2145]
messages:Aug 6 20:56:42 P52s kernel: NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected
hard LOCKUP on cpu 2
messages:Aug 6 21:30:11 P52s abrt-server[1960]: Oops looks like a
problem in kernel module, new component xorg-x11-drv-nouveau
Can someone help me debug this, oterwise the laptop and Fedora 28
running on it are amazing...
Thanks in advance
