grub2 set root
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
How can I understand this:
set root='lvmid/W6k0N8-5JlY-Xntk-w8Yi-Ss1F-I0IY-VzPRU3/vE133D-nAZ8-ltwF-2o4x-H6Cs-a9l5-19IRw4'
It is not in the list of partitions
Can I change it?
In the past it was clearer (probably before efi)

Hplip.
by Ger van Dijck
Hi all ,
It seems the whole world has problems with this piece of beautiful
software .
Hp-setup functionates fine : After the setup run HP-check and be sure that
the scanner is detected .
When upgrading I never had any problems ; When I had to do a new install
very often the scanfunction did not functionate anymore . Just return to
the former HPlibrairies .
Regards ,
Ger van Dijck .

HP printer device manager not seeing HP printer
by Robert Moskowitz
The hits on F30 keep coming. I can't remember an install where I had so
many things not work right.
Anyway.
I went through the standard Xfce printer setup and connected to my HP
8600 over port 9100. I have printed a number of items to this printer.
But I want to use the scanner, like I have set up on my old F28 system,
so I have installed hplip-gui, xsane, and such and started hplip-gui.
It is telling me I have no HP printers installed.
I went through localhost:631 and installed the printer again. It now
shows there as well.
HPlip-gui still not seeing the printer.
What might I be missing here?
thanks

PCYNLITX project and its innovations ( for multi-threading )
by Erkam Murat Bozkurt
Previously, I have presented my project to you. The current name of my
project is PCYNLITX.
PCYNLITX platform offers completely new programming technology which can be
named as Programmable Meta-Programming System and PCYNLITX platform is just
a particular application of this new programming methodology.
Basically, PCYNLITX is an intelligent integrated development environment (
IDE ) which can produce an application-specific multi-threading library
based on your needs and assists you in multi-thread software development
process. PCYNLITX is not a multi-threading library. Instead, it is a
multi-threading library generator. You can find out very comprehensive
documentation about pcynlitx project from both project web site and source
code repository. The addresses of the project web page and source code
repository are given in below links.
www.pcynlitx.tech
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pcynlitx
The outcome of the PCYNLITX platform acts as an autonomous thread
management system provides deterministic scheduling of the threads. You can
control the thread with the numbers given by you and determine the relation
of the threads. In other words, different from the other multi-threading
tools, you can directly schedule the threads independently from the
operating system.
The scientific journal of the project is under review on IEEE Transactions
on Software Engineering.
Currently, the PCYNLITX platform only works on Linux based operating
systems and the other versions ( Windows and McOSx ) are under development.
The License of the PCYNLITX platform is GNU GPLv3 Free Software License. You
can find out many other documents including scientific introduction of the
project (“Technical Introduction” ), code examples and GUI tutorial form
the project web sites. You can also find out a documents introducing
std::thread programming, pthread programming and OpenMP programming on the
web sites.
I am always waiting your valuable comments and contributions.
Thanks and best regards.

Switch to BLS failed
by GianPiero Puccioni
Hi,
I have a machine with F29 and a partition with an old WinXP (not EFI).
Before updating to F30 I wanted to try the new BLS so I used
"grub2-switch-to-blscfg" to test the transition, but something went wrong.
Before I did a full update and reboot to be sure, but after I gave the command
and rebooted the start menu showed only "Win Xp" no linux start.
Looking around I found a few things to test but nothing worked.
in "grub>" the command blscfg gave "can't find command 'blscfg'"
but /boot/loader/entries/ was populated with 4 .conf entries.
Only way to start Linux was the command "configfile /boot/grub2/grub.cfg.bak"
and I was able to go back to "standard" (edit "/etc/default/grub"
set "GRUB_ENABLE_BLSCFG=false" and rerun "grub2-install /dev/sda" and
"grub2-mkconfig -o grub.cfg").
Has anyone tried this? Did I miss a step or something?
Now that I know how to get back, and I saved a "good" grub.cfg, I can try
again.
Thanks,
G

F30 LVM partition on a notebook
by Robert Moskowitz
I decided to use the default partitioining options on the install and I
see that swap and the ext4 /home are in a LVM partition.
What does LVM buy me on a notebook? It is not like I am going to add
another drive and extend /home onto it.
In fact if I have to pull the drivew to rescue data from /home, I then
have to contend dealing with LVM and what if it is the same label as the
lvm on the system I try to mount it on.
Seems to me, in my limited knowledge, that I should continue as I have
for some time and just create the swap and home partitions directly.
