List all packages which have a build requirement on package foo
by Stefan Schulze Frielinghaus
Hi all,
How can I list all packages which have a *build* requirement on package
foo? AFAIK build requirements are not stored as meta data in RPM files.
Thus, repoquery won't help. The only option I am aware of would be to
download all SPEC files and search for build requirements manually. Any
other ideas? If not, is there a central repository of all SPEC files?
The use case is that I would like to find out which package depends on
package foo. The "normal" / runtime dependencies, i.e.,
Requires: foo
can be queried via repoquery. However, it is unclear to me how to list
packages which have a build requirement, i.e.,
BuildRequires: foo
on package foo.
Cheers,
Stefan

Error starting domain: Requested operation is not valid: network

by Patrick O'Callaghan
The above only happens when SElinux is Enabled. When Disabled,
everything works. The same happens on both my VMs (Fedora and Windows).
Looking at https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Networking I tried:
# virsh net-list --all

# virsh net-start default
error: Failed to start network default

I run my own dnsmasq (and QEMU/KVM runs its own dnsmasq separately) but
this has not been an issue recently.

Question on missing file from syslinux rpm?
by Michael D. Setzer II
I use syslinux in the g4l project I've maintained since 2004, and noticed that
Fedora 30 includes the later 6.04 version versus the latest full released 6.03
version. Did a test, and noted that all the files except display.c32 are included
with the fedora 30? Note sure if it was left out for a reason, or by accident?
Sent emails to the two email address that were in the info I found on the rpm
at fedora project, but haven't gotten an answer from either yet?
Doesn't greatly effect project, since booting works, but if user wants to drop
to boot prompt, it was the only option to be able to examine text files.
Thanks.

about dnf install with multi arch
by Changqing Li
Hi,
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, if not, please kind to
tell me.
I want to know does archs in /etc/dnf/vars/arch have same priority?
Here is problem I met:
under the repo, there are packageA.arch1.rpm which provide C and others,
also have packageB.arch2.rpm also provide C
1. if etc/dnf/vars/arch configed as arch1:arch2:arch3:arch4
dnf install packageA packageB will success, seems arch1 is high
priority than arch2, so packageA is installed, packageB is skipped
2. if etc/dnf/vars/arch configed as arch2:arch3:arch1:arch4
dnf install packageA packageB will fail with below error:
packageA.arch1 conflicts with C provided by packageB.arch2
conflict request
I am confused, if the first arch with highest priority, why in
condition 2 conflict request is reported? Not package B is installed
and PackageB is skipped?
Is it related with the content of package A/B? Can anyone explain how
the conflict is detected? Thanks in advance.

Loopback mount in fstab fails
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I'm trying to rationalise space by moving my /var directory from its
own partition to /, as currently there's a lot of wastage. I've copied
/var to /newvar with rsync, and now want to mount /newvar as /var on
reboot by creating an entry in /etc/fstab. This is it (using /var-tst
for testing):
/newvar /var-tst ext4 loop 0 0
but I'm getting:
mount: /var-tst: failed to setup loop device for /newvar.
/var-tst exists, so that's the problem? The man page for mount states
that it will create the necessary /dev loopback device if it isn't
specified. Currently there are no loopback devices in the system, and
the loop kernel module is loaded.

PS Suggestions on how to move /var without all this jiggery-pokery are
also welcome.

F30 not using extra battery on Lenovo T470s
by Chris Bredesen
I'm seeing some new behavior recently where my laptop shuts down hard, with
no warning, at about 50% battery. After the third time it happened I took a
look at the battery levels (after plugging in and restarting) and found
that the main battery was at 1% and charging, while the extra battery was
at 100% and fully charged.
So it would seem that my system is ignoring the extra battery or somehow
not tapping into it at runtime. I don't recall this ever happening in the
past and I'm not sure if this is an OS issue or something lower level.
Anyone seen or know how to diagnose this?
Thanks!

amd card resets itself
by Łukasz Posadowski
Hello everyone.
Recently I bought and AMD Radeon 570 card and was eager to test built in
Linux drivers on Fedora 30. While they work, card is behaving really
strange. As soon as it hits around 100% GPU usage, even for a brief
moment (which is exactly the moment gdm starts), it resets itself and
display artifacts on the screen. System works and I can ssh into it
without any problem, or switch into local text console.
The only way to keep it from those resets is
echo 'low'
> /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level
in text mode before isolate graphical target. Default value is "auto".
It's not preventing the crashes, they happens from time to time, but
the screen goes black immediately, so I thinks it's unrelated problem.
The card is not overheating, it's max around 50 degrees Celsius and both
fans are spinning fine.
Anyone of You have heard of resetting AMD cards? They could be easily
identified by the line in journald:
amdgpu 0000:01:00.0: GPU reset begin!
but the reset is never completed successfully. It can be easily
misinterpreted as hard system crash, because nothing happens on the
display, but it's not. Only something related to the GPU in broken.
I asked AMD support, but they suggested checking it on Windows 10,
which I don't have. I really want to debug this for Linux, but I don't
know where to look.
If You have Radeon 570, or know someone who has it, please let me know
if You have, or have not any problems. As far as I know for now, my card
may be physically broken.
thanks in advance

Volume/mute/brightness keys stopped working
by Ian Pilcher
I have a Dell Precision 5520 laptop (basically an XPS 15). The volume,
mute, and brightness "function" keys have always just worked on this
laptop with no additional configuration required ... until now.
Something has changed in the last week or two, and the keys no longer
have any effect (except that the brightness increase key now toggles
the maximized state of terminal windows).
Anyone else seen this recently?
Assuming no, anyone have any hints on how to debug this? I'm not really
sure how these function keys work (i.e. are they keypresses, ACPI
events, something else?).
Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

OT: mounting/accessing a cheap smartwatch
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
Apologies for the OT, but I have a cheap smartwatch that is conceptually bluetooth accessible and also charges via a USB dongle. I would like to access it from my Fedora 30 system and see if I can change settings, get information from my desktop.
I use blueman-manager to pair the device. The device is paired fine in the sense that it shows up on the blueman-manager and also the connected icon is visible on the device, however what do I do to access the files? Also, when I go away and come back, the manager says that it is connected, but the connected icon on the device is not visible anymore so I can not make anything out of this connection, or if it was even legit in the first place.
Secondly, when I plugin through USB, the battery starts charging as it should, but lsusb shows up nothing beyond what it does when it is not plugged in. Is it possible to access this smartwatch through USB?
I am totally new to playing with this so would like some advice/suggestions if possible.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan
