NeuroFedora is looking for a Spin/Labs master
by Ankur Sinha
Hello,
(Please get in touch via the NeuroFedora channels)
We now have enough software in NeuroFedora to create Comps groups and
think of a Spin/Lab. Would anyone like to join the NeuroFedora team as
our Spin master?
We have two sessions at Flock too. So if you are going, please attend
them to learn more:
Talk: NeuroFedora: FOSS and Open Science

FAQ
---
1. What is NeuroFedora?
Essentially, it's a set of packages just like any other Fedora packages.
The only difference is that these packages/software are all related to
Neuroscience. This includes modelling, imaging, data analytics, and
anything else that anyone interested in Neuroscience may use.
2. Why NeuroFedora?
Because FOSS and Open Science go hand in hand, we've come together to
provide a ready to use Fedora based platform for neuroscience users.
Instead of spending time setting up their systems, installing software,
we want to provide them with an installable ISO image.
3. What skills do I need to be Spin master?
None at all. Spin creation simply requires knowledge of the Fedora Spin
process and all of it is very well documented. Whatever skills you
need can be learned "on the job". The NeuroFedora team has quite a few
contributors that have been around for a while and can show you the
ropes.
4. Where can I learn more about NeuroFedora?
All our links are listed here in our documentation:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/neurofedora/communicating/
5. Is there anything else I can do?
Where do we even begin!? So much! Have a look here:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/neurofedora/contributing/

Final on enlarging swap - I really needed more memory
by Robert Moskowitz
Just felt I should post a wrap up on my swap increase journey.
All last week I ran with 4GB real memory and a total of 8GB swap.
I was using all the real memory and pretty much 4GB of swap with poor
performance.
What was going on? With Fedora 28 I was running fairly well with 4GB,
or was I? Plus I upgraded from a 2 core x120e to a 4 core x140e and I
thought things would be better.
So this morning I pulled a 4GB card out of another x140e I have that is
currently off.
Free is reporting:
$ free
total used free shared buff/cache
available
Mem: 7416056 3609248 860448 354948 2946360 3158088
Swap: 3419132 0 3419132
and performance is just fine. So I was suffering with only 4GB of real
memory. Perhaps F30 needs more than F28 or 4 core is just having more
things going and needs more memory.
Anyway, going to have to pop for the $20 for a 4GB card to put into the
system that is sitting with no memory....
Thanks for the help on adding a swap file. I have recorded that in my
instructions file for any future need.

setools-console-analyses package
by Aristeidis Dimitriadis
Hello,
I believe there is an error in the packaging of setools-console-analyses
which results in one of the tools being unusable. I am close to
submitting a bug report but I would like someone to have a look first in
case I am doing something wrong. Using up-to-date Fedora 30.
The tool of interest in sedta which performs "Domain transition analysis
for SELinux policies" (from the manpage). Running this tool results in this:
$ sedta -s <some domain> -p <some policy file>
'DiGraph' object has no attribute 'edges_iter'
This is a Python error and seems related to the networkx Python library
which is listed as a requirement. No version requirements for this
library are displayed by rpm. Installed version (by dnf) is 2.3.
However, there is this guide :
https://networkx.github.io/documentation/stable/release/migration_guide_f...
where it is clearly stated that the "edges_iter" API is removed in
version 2.0. The upstream SELinux tools project which I believe is here :
https://github.com/SELinuxProject/setools
does not use the "edges_iter" API (I grep-ed for it). My guess is that
networkx was updated but setools-console-analyses was not and now is
trying to use an incompatible library version.
No simillar issues appear on bugzilla. Should I create one?
Also, is there a way to report a bug without creating a bugzilla/fedora
account?

Fool mouse with minecraft
by Frédéric
Hi,
I'm using F30 with KDE Plasma. I also use the nvidia proprietary
drivers from rpmfusion so that my children can play minecraft with
high enough fps.
One thing they complain about is a strange behavior of the mouse when
they play minecraft. I mean that the mouse sometimes (very often)
moves suddenly in unpredictable direction. Has anyone experienced such
issue?
I also discovered that there are mouse lags a lot if 2 sessions are
open at the same time with switch user (that was true with F29, I did
not try since I upgraded to F30 few days ago). I have no clue if this
is related.
Kind regards,
F

All hail the developers!
by Beartooth
I'm only now getting around to upgrading my oldest computer (a
System76 netbook from before HDMI and the one I use least) from F29 to
F30. It's working on 3131 packages! Man alive, those people do a lot of
work!!

How to request a new package.
by Robin Laing
Hello,
I was trying to install the InventorLoader addon for FreeCAD and it
requires three python modules to install.
xlrd, xlwt and xlutils
xlrd and xlwt are available through DNF, xlutils isn't.
I saw it mentioned in an old bug report but nothing more.
I would like to request that this package be added.
