Monitor Flickering
by Yoram Halberstam
Hi all,
I have a Asus ROG Zypherus G14 with Radeon and NVidia inside. I have a
display issue. There is like a rectangle following the mouse which keeps
the original square and doesn't move until I remove the cursor. The video
below is an example, it's extremely annoying.

Any idea how to fix it?

I found the issue. It was not related to Fedora nor KDE: I had a
locally compiled version of gcc in the PATH and after the update,
there was some missing libraries.
Sorry for the noise.

How can I install the default desktop (GNOME) from command line on my
KDE spin? Maybe that would allow me to use the computer again until I
find a solution with Plasma KDE. Is it dnf install
@basic-desktop-environment?
Thanks,
F

Having strange result on processing UTF-8 file
by Michael D. Setzer II
I've spent a number of hours trying all kinds of things I've
found on web, but not getting anywhere. Probable
something simple.
Download 64 web pages into a single file using wget2.
That is fine.
file allraw.uog
allraw.uog: HTML document, UTF-8 Unicode text, with
very long lines
File is about 13M (have no control of the source file)
Have a simple CPP program that files lines that have
special utf-8 characters. Would extract that code and
printed output to screen directly and shows correct utf
characters. But If I redirect file to file name and open it,
many of the utf-8 characters show up as wrong extended
ascii character for first byte and then weird code? Both in
gedit and geany??
Modified program to write output directly to a file and if I
use cat the output displays the correct utf-8, but again if I
open file in gedit or geany it shows a a corrupted mix of
extended ascii??
$ ./findnoascii2 allraw.uog
Think this is the issue, but no ideal how to fix it.
$ file allraw.uog.out
allraw.uog.out: Non-ISO extended-ASCII text
The file actually contains the correct utf-8 data, and
looking at it with hexedit shows it, but both geany and
gedit open the file as extended ASCII insteat of UTF-8.
Changing the encoding afterward to UTF-8 does nothing.
Don't se options? Again, probable something simple..
Thanks.
Using cat to display out is fine.
Line number position in line hexcode of first chacter then
character and a file more characters.

I need a temporary imap client
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
Fedora 35
thunderbird-91.3.0-1.fc35.x86_64
Every time I want to see new eMail on my zoho
accounts (3), I need to restart Thunderbird.
It is a pain in the neck. My gMail account
are unaffected.
This is the bug:

Anyone have a recommendation for an alternate
imap client whilst I wait for the bug to be fixed?
Many thanks,

F35/Xfce window focus problem
by Robert Moskowitz
F35 and Xfce on a Lenovo X140e
This is most noticeable in the one instantiation of Thunderbird that
opens messages in new windows rather than a new tab.
What happens is that this new window stays hidden. Sometimes all it
takes is pressing the Alt key and the focus changes to the opened
message. Sometimes I see just the outline of the new window befoer I
press the Alt key. Other times I have to do an Alt-tab. And sometimes
it works ok.
Also sometimes it seems keystrokes are ignored. I press Cntl-R to
respond to a message and nothing happens. I try again and then it
'takes'. When I go to unlock from screensaver, I type in my password, I
see all the **** appear, I press enter and nothing. I press enter again
and the system unlocks.
Other weirdness at times. I have not found any bug report like this and
am getting ready to submit one.
Any pointers?
thanks

Hundreds of These on Recent F35 Kernel Updates

Setting up webserver for https??
by Michael D. Setzer II
I've run a web server on port 8081 for some time since
my ISP blocks ports 80 and 443 completely, and it has
worked fine.
Recently have noticed things in access_log that show
people are trying to connect to the port 8081 using
https?? Assume it is changes in browsers that want to do
https only.
Have just tried to use certbot to create a certificate, but it
seems to want to only support the connection to a web
server running on port 80 that does me no good and it
fails.. Any other options?
Nothing crital on site that needs https, but if browsers
are going to require it. Looking to run https on 8443 or
something? Sure someone else must have this issue?
Thanks for your time.

boot missing for kernel-5.15.6-200.fc35.x86)64
by bradbell@seanet.com
I have have installed
sudo dnf install kernel-5.15.6-200.fc35
and it completes without error.
The problem is that I do not see the new kernel as an option during system boot.
When I execute the command
ls /boot | grep '^vm'
I see
vmlinuz-5.14.10-300.fc35.x86_64
but I do not see an entry for kernel-5.16.6.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the new kernel, but that has not fixed the problem.
What should I do to get the option to boot the new kernel ?
