F34 pipewire and jack emulation; no sound from bluetooth headset
by karlderletzte
hello,
i have a annoying problem with the routing of sound if jack server is running
and used.
scenario:
without jack server running the bluetooth headset is used and works
well.
the problem is, that inside the patchfield of jack, there is no route to
the bluetooth headset, only the default system output.
therefore the sound from jack is routed to my loudspeakers or plugged
headset.
unfortunately no bluetooth connections available.
i read a bit on the pipewire issue list, and it seems that i'm not alone
with bluetooth issues.
any idea how to play sounds through jack to bluetooth headset?
ps: i use the pipewire-jack emulation.
the newest versions available from the fedora34 repos.
thanks

Problems reinstalling bootloader after a Windows update
by Adam Mercer
Hi
I dual boot my Fedora 35 system with Windows 10 and a Windows update
decided to remove the Fedora bootloader and I can no longer boot into
Linux.
I've booted from the Live CD and chrooted into my system after
mounting /boot and /boot/efi, I've then been following the
instructions here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/GRUB_2#Instructions_for_UEFI-based_systems
and when I reinstall the grub packages I get the following error:
Running scriptlet: grub2-common-1:2.06-8.fc35.noarch 26/26
error: failed to exec scriptlet interpreter /bin/sh: Permission denied
warning: %posttrans(grub2-common-1:2.06-8.fc35.noarch) scriptlet

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I have a system backup so all is not lost but surely I should be able
to reinstall the bootloader?
Cheers

google-chrome and sound
by François Patte
Bonjour,
Since an update (I can't remember when...) google-chrome changes my
sound status at strartup: whatever the settings of loud-speakers and mic
are, it opens them and sets them at 50% each.
How to forbid chrome to do that?
Thank you.

Suspend
by GianPiero Puccioni
Hi,
I am returning to a topic raised last year..
A friend has a laptop Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 5593 and "suspend" when he
closes the lid doesn't work anymore, as it doesn't get back and he has to reboot
it. Video card is "Intel Corporation Iris Plus Graphics G1 (Ice Lake) (rev 07)".
It did work with kernel 5.6.6 but stopped working with more recent kernels.
He uses F32 with that kernel since. But now he wanted to upgrade to F34, has
anyone with a similar laptop experience with a recent kernel and does it work
again now?
And would it work upgrading to F34 an booting froma F32 5.6.6 kernel if it
doesn't?
Thanks,

Disable Screensaver / Window Positions
by Alex
Hi,
I have a fedora35 desktop with three monitors using Cinnamon standard,
I believe.
After the screensaver is activated and I then press a key to restore
the display, all the windows from the center monitor have shifted to
the left monitor. Why does this happen?
Also, how do I even disable the screensaver? I've tried the
"screensaver" applet in "System Settings", but there's no toggle to
actually disable it, only to be able to control the delay before
starting the screensaver.
Perhaps you even have another desktop besides Cinnamon that you
recommend, and is better than the default GNOME? There are other
problems I have with it, like when using "remote desktop viewer" to
view my Windows VM, ALT keypresses are interpreted by the viewer and
not passed on to Windows.
Thanks,
Alex

F34 kernel-devel drpm checksum mismatch
by John Pilkington
For several recent kernel updates, dnf has complained about this but has
updated as normal. I've just noticed that the package name looks
strange, too. Should it get a BZ?
FWIW, I think this is needed by the rpmfusion nVidia packages. :-)
Thanks,
John P

Seeking maintainers of mathematical packages
by Jerry James
For some years now, I have maintained a collection of mathematical packages
and some of their dependencies in Fedora. I actually stopped using the
packages in question awhile ago, but have been maintaining them out of
inertia. I would like to free up time to get some code checking and formal
methods packages into Fedora. But I need to divest myself of the sagemath
and Macaulay2 stacks in order to have time to do so.
There are 241 packages listed below. I am primary maintainer for 217 of
them. Before anybody panics, I am not talking about orphaning them now.
My plan is to spend the next 12 months searching for people willing to step
into the primary maintainer role for these packages. I will repeat this
message at regular intervals in hope of finding willing participants. One
year from now, if I have not given all of these packages away, then I will
orphan the rest.
This is not a collection of packages that is falling apart. They are high
quality packages. Very little needs to be done right away.
If you have interest in any of the listed packages, please get in touch.
It doesn't matter if you are currently a Fedora packager or not. If not, I
will sponsor you via the comaintainer path, and stick around until you feel
comfortable handling the package yourself. It doesn't matter if you are
interested in only a single package. Contact me anyway.
To help those who may be new to packaging, I have started documenting some
of my workflows. I have a set of web pages rooted here:
https://jamezone.org/pleasure/software/Fedora/packager/
Those pages contain walk-throughs and examples illustrating how I approach
various tasks. I'm willing to donate any of that content to Fedora, so if
you see something you think should be on docs.fedoraproject.org, feel free
to tell me so. Also feel free to suggest additions or changes to what I
have there.

As far as I know, neither bagnara nor pcpa is actively involved in Fedora
anymore, so once I step away from their packages, the packages will
effectively be unmaintained.
If you want to see how these packages are related to each other, here is a
graph showing all of the packages I am involved with in Fedora:
https://jamezone.org/pleasure/software/Fedora/fedora.pdf
The black ovals are packages for which I am primary maintainer, blue are
packages for which I am comaintainer, green are packages for which I am
neither but I maintain the package anyway, and red are packages that I
normally don't touch except for the occasional rebuild due to an soname
bump or similar. The ones I am talking about stepping away from are
primarily on the right half of the diagram.
