What to do about a GUI application not appearing in Gnome Software?
by Matti Pulkkinen
Hello!
I noticed that RStudio doesn't show up in Gnome Software's search on
F33 Workstation. My understanding is that graphical applications should
be installable through Gnome Software, but I'm not sure whether filing
a bug would be the right thing to do here, ot whether there's something
else I should do instead.

Btrfs performance
by László Pál
Hi,
I have a server mainly used for central log collection (syslog-ng collects logs and put in files). It is quite big, with 5TB partition allocated for logs. I’m using BTRFS on this partition with on-the-fly compression, so I can save lots of space without playing with logrotate and compress. What I’ve observed the i/o performance of this partition is terrible. Right now I’m deleting some old logs (couple thousand files) for hours. Is there any way to improve the performance of a partition like this or should I consider to move data to xfs w/o compression and implement some logrotate based archiving?

cannot ssh between 2 Fedora 33 laptops
by S Bob
All;
I have 2 new laptops, with new installs of Fedora 33
On both laptops I have run:
# systemctl start sshd
# systemctl stop firewalld
They are both on the same wifi network
a ping from either laptop to the IP of the other one produces
"Destination Host Unreachable"
Is there something else in Fedora 33 I need to do?
Thanks in advance

Virtual background for Zoom video
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
I would like to replace the background behind in my webcam video feed
with an image. However, that is not possible, as it requires a “green
screen”, which I do not have. So, my idea is to use a virtual camera
with a background image chosen by me and feed that into Zoom. Is that
possible on Fedora?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Networking issue in VMs
by Adam Mercer
Hi
I've started having a strange problem the last couple of days with my
VMs, I use both VMWare Workstation and VirtualBox on my Fedora 33
system and recently the network connectivity inside my VMs stopped
working after some point.
I installed an Ubuntu VM, in VMWare. and was using it for several days
without issue and then yesterday I booted up the VM and I could not
access the outside work from within my VM. As far as the VM was
concerned everything seemed fine, it had an IP address in the expected
range there was just no connectivity. I needed to do some work in a
Debian based machine so just quickly stood up a new VM, this time
Debian Buster. As before it worked fine. However this morning I booted
up the VM and encountered the same problem. With this VM I had created
a snapshot shortly after standing it up when i knew it was working, so
I reverted the machine to the snapshot and again I had no connectivity
within the VM.
I then tried VirtualBox, I stood up a Debian Buster VM and booted into
it, it worked fine. At some point later network operations stopped
working like with VMWare.
Any idea what could cause networking to stop working within my VMs?
Cheers
Adam

I want to map my Fn key to work on LXDE environment.
by Cătălin George Feștilă
The Fn key is the wakeup key when the machine is suspended.
If anyone wants to map it to other functions, then that's okay.
I want to map the Fn key on Fedora 33 LXDE.
My keyboard hardware come with an Fn key, see:

These are the infos about my Linux and hardware:
$xmodmap -pke | grep "=$"
keycode 8 =
keycode 93 =
keycode 97 =
keycode 103 =
keycode 120 =
keycode 132 =

The Fn key is disable because I don't have a response from xev command:

Verifying a Fedora-33 Image
by Jonathan Ryshpan
I have downloaded the Fedora-33 KDE spin and am attempting to verify
it. Following the instructions (appended below for convenience) I
have:
* Imported the keys using curl (where do they go?) and
* Verified the CHECKSUM file using gpg
The verification fails with this message:
$ gpg --verify-files *-CHECKSUM
gpg: Signature made Fri 23 Oct 2020 08:09:07 AM PDT
gpg: using RSA key
963A2BEB02009608FE67EA4249FD77499570FF31
gpg: Good signature from "Fedora (33)
<fedora-33-primary(a)fedoraproject.org>" [unknown]
gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the
owner.
Primary key fingerprint: 963A 2BEB 0200 9608 FE67 EA42 49FD 7749 9570
FF31
This doesn't look good. How can I verify the CHECKSUM file?
Verification instructions
from https://spins.fedoraproject.org/en/verify follow:
Next, import Fedora's GPG key(s):
$ curl https://getfedora.org/static/fedora.gpg | gpg --import
You can verify the details of the GPG key(s) here.
Now, verify that the CHECKSUM file is valid:
$ gpg --verify-files *-CHECKSUM
The CHECKSUM file should have a good signature from one of the
following keys:
- 12C944D0 - Fedora 32
- 3C3359C4 - Fedora 31
- CFC659B9 - Fedora 30
- DBBDCF7C - IOT 2019
Finally, now that the CHECKSUM file has been verified, check that the
image's checksum matches:
$ sha256sum -c *-CHECKSUM
If the output states that the file is valid, then it's ready to use!

Fedora 33 and HDMI KVM switch
by Paolo Galtieri
Folks,
I'm having an issue running Fedora 33 and an external monitor
connected to an HDMI KVM switch. Here is the way it's connected:
Laptop thunderbolt 3 connector -> 4 port USB c to USB 3.0 hub -> USB to
HDMI adapter -> HDMI KVM switch.
The mouse and keyboard work, however Fedora 33 does not detect the
external monitor.
Even if I take the KVM switch out of the equation Fedora 33 still does
not find the external monitor.
This laptop also boots to Windows 10 and everything works fine there.
I have an older laptop running Fedora 31 connected as follows:
laptop HDMI port -> HDMI KVM switch.
This works fine.
Any help is appreciated.
The KVM switch is a 4 port AV Access HDMI 2.0 KVM Switch
