Font Issue.....
by Eddie O'Connor
Greetings my fellow Fedorans! I have a question / puzzle that I can't seem
to fix. Ok soooo
I am using
a Lenovo ThinkCenter M-83 / 32GB RAM / 500GB SSD
Installed a fresh copy of Fedora 34 on it and the install and initial setup
went without a hitch. I have failing eyes, and I prefer certain fonts when
I use the various apps and programs, to help my vision. I have opened the
Terminal and have tried to change the font to something, ANYTHING
"bold"?....but there's no bold fonts options. there's the Sans and
Monospace, but no Monospace "Bold". I've tried installing the font, but
even though it appears as an option with Gnome Tweaks?...and I've set it
there?...when I open the Terminal it STILL doesn't have any bold options!!
I've even made sure to install the RPM Fusion repos in the hopes that
they're in there, but nothing. Is there something that I need to do to get
the Monospace Bold Font back? I know its there in F33 (on my Dell XPS
running Fedora 33) so what happened?...is there no longer a way to get that
font?..or am I just losing brain cells? Did I miss something? Any help
would be greatly appreciated, and thank you all in advance!!
Cheers!

Troubleshooting with Pipewire after uncompleted update
by Diego Iván Martínez Escobar
Greetings, everyone,
Yesterday, while updating my system, the power went out, and the process
did not complete. Initially, the system could not get into the gnome-shell.
I could solve this by completing the update by booting it into the text
terminal.
When I could finally use the gnome-shell, the audio did not work. Switching
to Pulseaudio can solve the problem, but I noticed that Pipewire config
file broke, it was empty (I thought this was the reason Pipewire was not
working).
I installed back again Pipewire, and DNF created a config file by default.
When rebooting and logging back, it did not work either, a solution I found
was running Pipewire from the terminal and specifying the config file with
pipewire -c /usr/share/pipewire/pipewire.conf
And it made audio work back again (finally!). Still, I would like to know
if it is possible to get it running just when logged in. Any help or
comments are welcomed.

Preserving @home brtfs subvolume on a fresh Fedora installation
by Marco Guazzone
Hello,
I have just done a fresh installation of Fedora 34 on a new computer and
used the automatic disk partitioning proposed by the installer.
Now my disk has the following layout:
- /boot (ext4)
- /boot/efi (EFI system partition)
- / (btrfs), with two subvolumes: @root and @home.
In case of a new fresh installation of Fedora, I would like to preserve the
@home subvolume only and instead overwrite the rest. However, I am not sure
what I should do (note, I don't want to use dnf upgrade).
Just as an experiment, I tried to simulate a fresh (re)installation of
Fedora 34 and I selected "Custom" as the disk partitioning method. The
installer showed the above disk layout. So, my idea was to use the same
approach I used in the past (with ext4 partitions). Specifically:
* For the "/boot" and "/boot/efi" partitions, I specified "/boot" and
"/boot/efi" as mount points, respectively, and flagged the "Reformat"
checkbox.
* For the "/home" subvolume, I specified "/home" as the mount point,
without flagging the "Reformat" checkbox.
* For "/", I cannot tell the installer to reformat it. I am not sure what
to do. I would create a new btrfs filesystem with "/" as the mount point,
but I am not sure it is correct.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you.

And nearly all "iwl*" packages also brougth this md5 mismatch.
What's behind? Is the repo compromised?

questions after upgrade to fedora34
by cheese@nosuchhost.net
hi
i have two problems after upgrading to fedora34:
* copy/paste in xterm/terminator now paints the copied text with reversed
colors. in fedora 33 it was clear that in my black on white terminal
marked text is colored white with black background. that part works the
same in f34. pasting is different now. pasted text was colored
like typed text, in fedora34 it is now colored the same as marked text.
quite annoying, at least for me.
* i have two accounts (usera and userb). normaly i use usera and this is
my main account which i use to log into fedora. userb is just used for
"jailing" firefox away from my normal user. works in fedora 34, but i no
longer have sound from that firefox. i think the reason might be pipewire.
is pipewire capable to send one users sounds to another users devices on
the same machine?
any suggestions anyone?
thanks

Video controller recommendations
by Alex
Hi,
I currently have an AMD Radeon 5770 with 1GB that must be at least ten
years old. I've just purchased a 32" Samsung to go with my two 27"
connected using DVI. If I continue to use this card, I would connect
the 32" with the HDMI or DisplayPort adapter.
How would this card perform supporting three monitors?
I realize it's a terrible time to purchase a video card, but do you
have any recommendations?
I currently use one monitor for streaming, and plan to use the other
two for work-related things. No games now, but perhaps in the future -
what's the game market like for Linux users using fedora33 these days?
I believe AMD is a better option than Nvidia due to the drivers on
Linux, correct?
Do I need anything more than a 4GB card? I thought the main advantages
for more memory were to support larger resolutions, correct?
Is there a big difference between PCI 2.1 and 3.0/3.1?
Here are a few I've been considering. Other recommendations?
