32 bit pam-libs?
by Tom Horsley
For a few days now, I've been getting update errors because (apparently)
the 32 bit pam isn't yet in the repos even though the 64 bit version
is newer:
Problem 1: pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686 has inferior architecture
- cannot install both pam-1.5.2-13.fc36.x86_64 and pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686
- cannot install the best update candidate for package pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.x86_64
Problem 2: package libpwquality-1.4.4-7.fc36.i686 requires pam(x86-32), but none of the providers can be installed
- package pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686 requires pam-libs(x86-32) = 1.5.2-12.fc36, but none of the providers can be installed
- cannot install both pam-libs-1.5.2-13.fc36.i686 and pam-libs-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686
- cannot install the best update candidate for package pam-libs-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686
- cannot install the best update candidate for package libpwquality-1.4.4-7.fc36.i686
Problem 3: problem with installed package pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686
- package pam-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686 requires pam-libs(x86-32) = 1.5.2-12.fc36, but none of the providers can be installed
- pam-libs-1.5.2-12.fc36.i686 has inferior architecture
- cannot install both pam-libs-1.5.2-13.fc36.x86_64 and pam-libs-1.5.2-12.fc36.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package pam-libs-1.5.2-12.fc36.x86_64
In the past these sorts of things have gone away if I waited a couple
of days, but it has been doing this all week. Is a proper 32 bit pam
going to land soon?
I'm not sure why I currently have 32 bit pam installed, any drastic
consequences for removing all the 32 bit pam packages? There certainly
doesn't appear to be a vast number of packages dnf wants to remove
if I say erase pam.i686 and pam-libs.i686.

WebEx client no longer works on Fedora 36
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
Does anyone still have the official Cisco WebEx linux client work with Fedora 36? It used to work fine a month or so ago, but has not worked for me for the last two weeks (at least). Specifically, what happens is that the client opens up all right, but then when I either start or join meeting, the window tries to start and then everything comes crashing down.
I am not sure what the problem is, and there are no error messages at
all, but I was wondering if anyone had
similar experiences and, more importantly, knew how to fix this
issue. I am updated to the latest July version of WebEx and F36 (but
for emacs, but that is not relevant).
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

32-->36?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
I have a customer who FINALLY agreed to have me upgrade
his Fedora 32 server to 36.
Can I jump directly, or do I have to go one or
two revisions at a time?
Many thanks,
-T

Just upgraded from F35 to F36.

Apache and umask for document root
by Alex
Hi,
I've set up a virtual host for a joomla website and having some
permissions problems. I've seen numerous configurations online about
how to set umask for the apache user, but none have worked, including
creating a systemd file
(/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service) with the
following:
[Unit]
Description=The Apache HTTP Server
After=network.target remote-fs.target nss-lookup.target
[Service]
Type=notify
Environment=LANG=C
Umask=0006
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -DFOREGROUND
ExecReload=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k graceful
# Send SIGWINCH for graceful stop
KillSignal=SIGWINCH
KillMode=mixed
PrivateTmp=true
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
The problem is that the files are owned by the joomla user, but also
need to have access (both read and write) to be able to modify some
files within the document root.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set umask for the apache user?
I'm also interested in recommended permissions settings for the joomla
document root.
Thanks,
Alex

Nvidia refresh rate.
by GianPiero Puccioni
Hi,
I want to decrease the refrash rate of the video to use less battery but I am
having difficulties...
I have F35 with KDE on a Dell G15 with Nvidia GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Ti
Mobile], the RPMFusion drivers and a 1920x1080 resolution (native).
In the "system settings-display" There is the possibility to change refresh from
120Hz to 60Hz but it doesn't stick; I change it and "apply" but if I change
screen and go back to "display" it's again at 120Hz, I tried "nvidia-settings"
but it has only info, not settings.
The program "xrandr" reports
1920x1080 120.00*+ 59.97 59.96 59.93
Is this the problem 59.97 not 60?
Any suggestions?

fully updated F36 Dell XPS 13 no longer comes back from hibernate
(post Thursday updates)
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
I have a fully updated F36 Dell XPS 13 that has been updated nightly (and upgraded when appropriate) using dnf on a cron job for the past few years. Sadly, after last Thursday's updates, the machine goes down fine (with the usual systemctl hibernate), but does not come back up. I am a little confused what changed last Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I may diagnose and fix this problem.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

Wifi Device Last Used Message From Network Manager - What Does the
Message Mean?
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
When I boot into Linux and look at the config for my wifi device
and it says the device was "Last used 30 minutes Ago", what exactly does
that message mean? Does it mean what is says, or does it mean that was
the last time the device was attempted to be activated? I'm asking this
because I have had that message on a device that Linux could not use.
regards,
Steve

Fedora 35 crashes with all updates applied. How do I submit a bug
report re. crashing in Gnome but probably Kernel bug.
by Andrew Wood
Hello,
I have Fedora set up with Fedora 35 (workstation edition) using Gnome 41.6.
I notice a (annoying!) bug which occurs when I try and cut and paste
from one window to another. What seems to happen is that the Gnome
session closes and it dumps me into terminal mode. If I type Ctrl-C then
Gnome restarts and a new user session is presented. Prior to my most
recent update, this bug seemed even worse in its frequency and scope.
But still, I am now continuing to potentially losing work (and basic
functionality).
This might be a Kernel error using shared memory between threads or
processes but I really don't know. It's a guess. Anyhow, what do I need
to do, to file a bug and what memory or process dumps/logs/stack traces
are needed to help the developers. ie what do I type where!
Thank-you.
