Hey Onyeibo,
No, Sorry the badges system is broken and is being built from scratch
by Fedora Infra
at this moment and will take some time. Nonetheless, we have something
called Heroes of Fedora, that
I will be running for F39 and you will get a mention when I pull up
all the test day data.
Thanks for testing!

Starting LXDE from xinit -- :0 xterm window
by Robert McBroom
Been having problems with f38 startup going to a blank screen with no
response to the keyboard, mouse. Was using sddm as the display manager.
Can get around it by by booting in terminal mode. Starting the graphical
mode with xinit -- :0 and lxsession in the resulting xterm window. Get
the following messages in the window--
~]$ lxsession &
[1] 4047
~]$ ** Message: 12:00:19.020: main.vala:113: Session is (null)
** Message: 12:00:19.021: main.vala:114: DE is (null)
** Message: 12:00:19.021: main.vala:118: No session set, fallback to
LXDE session
** Message: 12:00:19.021: main.vala:124: No desktop environnement set,
fallback to LXDE
** Message: 12:00:21.473: main.vala:145: log directory:
/home/rm3/.cache/lxsession/LXDE
** Message: 12:00:21.473: main.vala:146: log path:
/home/rm3/.cache/lxsession/LXDE/run.log
The system is sthen somewhat usable but occasionally locks up. Is there
a command to start a desktop environment before the session?

Broken Packages DNF update /Dorian Rosse/Tom Horsley. FFmpeg / VLC.
by Ger van Dijck
Hello All,
In the recent past I had problems with skipping packages with broken
dependencies : ffmpeg-libs , libavdevice : Dorian Rosse adviced to
install with " rpmfind ffmpeg-libs and libavdevice".
No result.
Tom Horsley did advice "dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing".
Result skip broken dependencies ffmpeg (new !) , ffmpeg-libs ,
libavdevice : So no result.
I solved the problem with dnf update ffmpeg --allowerase and all
problems where sollved.
Now Tom has a new problem with VLC player. Well so have I : What is
wrong with ffmpeg ?
Dnf wants to update Live 555 to 2023.06.20-2.f38 , when doing so the vlc
player cannot be launched anymore.
So I found the following solution "dnf install vlc" : The result a
downgrade on Live 555 and big surprice all (VLC) runs fine !
So do not update Live 555.
One way or another I have the impression that DNF is for the most of us
to complex.
Nice to hear from you all.
Ger van Dijck.

Is this another rpmfusion versus fedora thing?
by Tom Horsley
I've been getting this dnf error for several days now:
Problem: package vlc-core-1:3.0.19-0.3.fc38.1.x86_64 from @System requires live555(x86-64) = 2023.03.30, but none of the providers can be installed
- cannot install both live555-2023.06.20-2.fc38.x86_64 from updates and live555-2023.03.30-1.fc38.x86_64 from @System
- cannot install both live555-2023.03.30-1.fc38.x86_64 from rpmfusion-free and live555-2023.06.20-2.fc38.x86_64 from updates
- cannot install the best update candidate for package vlc-core-1:3.0.19-0.3.fc38.1.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package live555-2023.03.30-1.fc38.x86_64
Is this like ffmpeg was earlier with rpmfusion and fedora repos clashing?
What is the best way to fix it?

Bluetooth headphones remain visible in Plasma Audio volume after
disconnect
by Blaz Rojc
I use Bluetooth headphones (Razer Barracuda X) with my laptop (Dell Latitude 5530) running the KDE Plasma spin of Fedora 38. In the last week or so, I noticed that every time the headphones disconnect or change profile, a "new" device shows up in the Audio volume panel and the "old" one stays there, doing nothing. This doesn't really affect the use of the headphones, except that scrolling to change volume doesn't work anymore, as the panel defaults to changing the "old" device, which stays unchanged. I have to manually open the panel and drag the slider to change volume.
Does anyone know how should I tackle this problem or where should I write for help? I feel like this should be a recent bug, as I have been using the headphones without issues for a couple months now, and it only recently started breaking.
Thank you in advance for any help!
PS: I can provide screenshots of the Audio volume panel, but I don't know how to include images here.

Printing a pdf in booklet format
by Robert Moskowitz
I cannot figure out how to get the equiv of Acrobat reader to print a
pdf in booklet format.
That is to print 2 pages per side, double-sided but in an order that you
just staple along the middle and have a booklet.
I am using F38 and Xfce.
I have Okular, Atril, and Xfce's pdf viewer.
Anyone experienced with this?
thanks.

Problem with SD card
by Geoffrey Leach
I have a 1TB SanDisk XC SD card, which has developed a reluctance to
create files.
UUID=0fd984c4-cf88-408a-8ba5-15b64500bd5c /Media/SDXC ext4
noauto,rw,user 0 0
% sudo mount /Media/SDXC
% touch /Media/SDXC/foo
% ls /Media/SDXC/foo
/Media/SDXC/foo
% sudo umount /Media/SDXC
% sudo mount /Media/SDXC
% ls /Media/SDXC/foo
/bin/ls: cannot access '/Media/SDXC/foo': No such file or directory
I used root to mount, just to be sure. User mount has the same problem.
gparted reported a problem with the superblock which was resolved by
re-formatting and re-creating the partition table. The card has just
one partition.
Suggestions for further diagnosis would be appreciated.

no network access
by Bill Cunningham
Sometime ago I wrote to this list about network connection problems. I
reinstalled my fedora server and all was fine. Well I reinstall a
windows system and had to fix grub2. So I booted F38 server and this is
the error I got.
Errors during downloading metadata for repository 'fedora':
- Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name for
https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-38&arch=x86_64
[Could not resolve host: mirrors.fedoraproject.org]
Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'fedora': Cannot prepare
internal mirrorlist: Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name for
https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-38&arch=x86_64
[Could not resolve host: mirrors.fedoraproject.org]
I did nothing to the system and all I tried to run was 'dnf
distro-sync' for updates. Is this grub2 related? Since it had to be
reinstalled from scratch? The system has always been there I just
cleared and reinstalled a Windows on another partition and thusly had to
reinstall a new grub2 bootloader. It boots fine.

Fedora 38 - OpenBox destop environment not 100% in package
by Cătălin George Feștilă
I try to install and use OpenBox on Fedora 38 but dnf doesn't install Obmenu, the Openbox themes are not shown in Onboard preference.
I use dnf tool to install mistral but is not shown in the Onboard theme area.
Any idea about this? Can this be an issue for the development and maintenance of the OpenBox environment package?
