color profiles for screens/monitors

Hi guys How do we load & tweak color profiles in Fedora (without using external sensor-devices) ? My Lenovo Thinkbook built-in screen has different (and not adjustable in BIOS) color temperature what my external DELL shows - they are quite different thus annoying. many thanks, L.

Lost my Gimp Arrows

Hi All, I somehow got updated to gimp 2.99.19 (3.0 on the splash screen). I lost my arrows. Any idea how to get the back? Everything I have found it for gimp 2.0. -T -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Computers are like air conditioners. Is the dnf tracer plugin working?

I upgraded to F41 yesterday, and everything seemed to go smoothly. However a subsequent run of "dnf upgrade" updated firefox, but didn't tell me to restart it. Since I didn't notice this I kept using the (now outdated) Firefox that was already running, until FF suddenly told me it wanted to restart. This has never happened before. AFAIK the tracer plugin is installed: python3-dnf-plugin-tracer-4.1.2-3.fc41.noarch Could this be a problem with dnf5? poc

There should only be 2: the f-40 entries. What I listed above from the "ls" commands are what appear to be the extra files. I've deleted from the output entries for the f-40 kernels and the memtest entries. The "rpm" output is for your information. The questions: 1. Am I correct in assuming that I get rid of the extra files listed above? 2. If yes, should I do that by using the "rm" command, or would it be better to do it another way? If another way, how? (Would using the "rm" command mess up a database?) 3. What else (if anything) should I do to complete this clean-up properly?

HDR Support in KDE

HI, With the last system update I put on (yesterday) I have been upgraded to Plasma 6.2. One of the enhancements in this version was more support for HDR, but even though my monitor is HDR there are no HDR settings in KDE System Settings. Under Gnome with Wayland there are HDR settings. Is anyone else seeing the same issue? regards, Steve

dnf-system-upgrade to Fedora 41 is Ok

Hi Everyone, I just upgraded three machines to Fedora 41 using <https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/>. The machines were two desktops and one server. All the machines use the default Fedora repos; and they do not use third party repos. The process went as expected. There were no problems. `rpmconf -a` replaced more conf files than usual. For my configurations, it looks like older Java versions present in my environment were the reason for the extra replacements. It looks like `clean-rpm-gpg-pubkey` is a new program added to optional post-upgrade steps. RPMFusion users may want to wait for the third party repository to rebuild its packages for F41. Jeff

KDE not Remaining Active at Startup

Hi, I randomly have an issue where having logged in to KDE from SDDM, the KDE desktop with icons displays for a little while, and then it shuts down to the SDDM login screen again. What do I look at to determine why? regards, Steve

CentOS - what to use now that CentOS 7 is EOL

Greetings, My personal setup is three Fedora machines (two laptops), a Windows 10 laptop, and an older desktop used for backup/storage. The last has been running a variant of CentOS for the longest time; backup is done hourly on the Fedora machines using rsync. CentOS 7 went EOL in June. To that end, what does the Fedora community recommend as a replacement/alternative? For the backup machine, I'm of mind to upgrade to large capacity SSDs (probably should have done so a while ago); but that's tangential. Thank you for any and all advice. Max pyz(a)brama.com

USB-Problems on Fedora 40

Hello, I searched a bit around, but didn't find anything similar (tried to find somethin in bugzilla...). On my machine (Thinkpad E485), running Fedora 40 with all latest updates (Kernel 6.11.5-200.fc40.x86_64) usb ports stopped working. On boot my external Harddrive (connected through a hub) starts working, but when I reach the GNOME login screen, everything USB related device stops. The funny thing is, my phone still charges. But the hardrive disappears from the system, the usb-mouse isn't working (trackpoint does), lsusb gives a funny short list. I now booted the previous kernel, everything works fine. Anyone else noticing this? Thanks -- Tibor I use Open Source Software!

caching name server and 127.0.0.53

Hi All, Fedora 39 I am running a caching named server (named-chroot). It is listening on 127.0.0.1. The WAN IP address comes from the DHCP on my DSL modem. Problem: the accursed systemd-resolved changes /etc/resolv.conf from nameserver 127.0.0.1 search . to nameserver 127.0.0.53 options edns0 trust-ad search . Meaning no DNS resolution until I vi resolv.conf every time I boot up, which is what my web searches tell me to do. <editorial comment> AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! </editorial comment> How do I tell systemd-resolved to stop this annoying behavior. -T "options edns0 trust-ad" seems like a good thing .
