If X11 login goes, what happens with x2go?
by Neal Becker
I totally depend on x2go for connection to my remote server. With f40,
what happens? Is login to X11 desktop supported? I assume this is
required for x2go to work.

HP elitedesk 705 G1 mt will not boot from dvd
by Michael Hennebry
I've been trying to get an HP elitedesk 705 G1 mt to boot from dvd.
So far no luck.
I've managed to get DVD listed as the
first boot entry for both UEFI and legacy.
The machine seems to try and fail.
The error messages go by rather fast.
I think I've seem things like "invalid header" and "no such file",
but am not as sure as I'd like to be.
Most recently I tried and failed with
Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-39.1.5.iso
Any idea what I should try next?
My late girlfriend used it.
I remember her password,
which is why she is not on the sudo list.
I do not remember either the root password or my own.

Uh-oh...
by Dave Ihnat
Didn't see this go by, but it looks hot enough to risk a repeat posting.
From a friend:
It appears there's been a very serious effort to backdoor sshd on
Linux via the xz compression/decompression system.
https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4
If you have anything running very recent Linux, it's worth investigating
whether you're affected.
IBM Red Hat says, if you're running Fedora 40 or Fedora Rawhide:
> PLEASE IMMEDIATELY STOP USAGE OF ANY FEDORA
> RAWHIDE INSTANCES for work or personal activity.
The identity that did this got to the point of being not only an xz
maintainer but a Linux kernel contributor, and contributed to a number
of other Open Source projects as well over the course of years. The
identity may have been compromised to do this, or may have been created
to do this, and may have used other contributions to build rapport or
to compromise more projects as well.
I looked at the detection script available at the URL in the posting. It's
harmless at worst (don't know yet if it can detect anything).

XFCE panel Bluetooth applet
by Javier Perez
Hi
I think there used to be an applet on the tray of the XFCE desktop for
managing bluetooth.
Did I dream it?

VDQ finding dnf names
by Beartooth
I normally have two or three browsers open. Most have been
installed for so long I no longer remember what dnf calls them.
My wife, who also runs F39, has been having trouble with the ones
she has, and I have yet to get around to trying to diagnose them. Today as
a stopgap I tried to install some others for her, using dnf.
It couldn't find brave, falcon, opera, nor vivaldi. VERY Dumb
Question : How do I look up what it calls them?

Questions about virtiofs
by Frank Bures
Hi,
I have several separate file systems, amongst them /home on btrfs and media
depository /archives on xfs (RAID-5).
I am running Win11 guest in QEMU on F39 host. I installed winfsp in the
guest and I can access my /home in Win11 guest.
However, if I "Add Hardware" in Virtual HW details and create another
virtiofs from /archives, I cannot see the file systems in Win11 guest.
Is that a known limitation (only one virtiofs mounted at the time), or am I
doing something wrong?
Neither of
/var/log/libvirt/qemu/win11-fs0-virtiofsd.log
/var/log/libvirt/qemu/win11-fs1-virtiofsd.log
indicate any obvious errors. They are in fact identical.
Question 2:
I do not see existing soft links in /home on Win11 guest. Is that
intentional?
Thanks
Frank
