wifi interface not up at boot

Working with a new laptop, Asus s16 s5606. I replaced the Win 11 install with F42 Mate/Compiz spin. I can get the WiFi interface to connect to my network but only with manual intervention. The interface card is an Intel BE201. There is no wired ethernet interface. I have been unable to have the WiFi interface active at boot. I see no "bios" setting to change nor is there a keyboard kill switch. I'm using Network Manager but I've tried systemd-networkd and iwd as alternatives. Upon logging in, I can do one of three things, click on the NM applet and "enable WiFi" or from the command line use "nmcli radio wifi on" or some rfkill command, the syntax I've forgotten, to turn the radio on. Any suggestions as to how to get the wifi card active and connecting during boot? -- Jon H. LaBadie jonfu(a)jgcomp.com

People, I don't think it is related to the OP Subject but I am not sure either: I used dnf to upgrade from 41 a couple of weeks ago and everything seemed to be fine. Because YT ads annoy me, I usually bulk download a bunch of videos that look interesting from the RSS feeds I get and then play them all from a script with mpv. Last night or today I think I have done something that is preventing the sound from working. After hours of messing around I found: - mpv playing mp3s works fine. - mpv playing mp4s works fine for a new tst user but not for me (phr). - all the stuff I looked at seems to be working fine (alsa, pipewire etc) but using this switch in the command fixed the no sound problem: mpv --audio-device=alsa . . . and: mpv --audio-device=pipewire . . . fails. So at least I am operational again but I don't know what the problem is for usr "phr". Suggestions about how to debug would be appreciated! Have a Fc39 server qemu/kvm virtual machine. Trying to access the filesystem from the host machine. Hi! I installed F42 yesterday and the sound was working at first. Now that I've copied my old files and updated everything I have no sound. How can I figure out what's going on and eventually fix it (that'd be nice). Thank you. Fred

There is a whole bunch of SW to use a microphone and a speaker on your phone. What i want is opposite . My phone should use my microphone and speakers on my Linux. Is there anything like this too? BR, Bob

F42 live hangs at boot

I downloaded Fedora-Workstation-Live-42-1.1.x86_64.iso and followed directions to check the checksum. dd'ed the file to /dev/sdf . At the time, that was a USB adapter for an SD card. cp'ed /dev/sdf to f1.iso . cp copied more than was dd'ed, so I interupted it. cmp told me Fedora-Workstation-Live-42-1.1.x86_64.iso was an initial string of f1.iso . When I tried to boot from the SD card, I got Trying to boot from CD-ROM Trying to boot from USB device GRUB hang I have also tried using the boot menu. When I tell the boot menu to use the USB device, it doesn't. It just boots from the hard drive as if that was what I told it. What is going on? Could someone explain what means this systemctl status postfix ● postfix.service - Postfix Mail Transport Agent Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/postfix.service; enabled; preset: disabled) Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/service.d └─10-timeout-abort.conf Active: active (running) since Tue 2025-05-13 11:04:24 EEST; 3s ago postfix.service enabled preset;disabled? I can see this in my another system, where sendmail is in use. I have done systemctl enable postfix systemctl start postfix And same there with sendmail.. This preset is disabled, what that means? Fedora 41 to 42 upgrade

Does anyone know if the /usr/bin /usr/sbin snafu has been fixed in the latest Fedora 42 repo? I am referring to the issue that messes with access to things like postfix's sendmail via symlink. Emmett -- Evolution as taught in public schools is science. No faith required.

F42 Server Installer problems

New system with 1.2T drive. Has Windows 11 on it. Split the drive with the windows manager for 1.2T free space. Trying to put f42 server on the free space. The installer options for custom install won't enable. Only the automatic choice. Would typically make three partitions boot,root and home. How do I see the free space?
