creating install media for Fedora server (42)

Is it no-longer possible to use dd to write an install ISO to a flashdrive, or is there something wrong with the ISO (which passes the checksum tests)? If I do this command: [root@rocky fedora42]# dd if=Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-42-1.1.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress 2923241984 bytes (2.9 GB) copied, 1204.794829 s, 2.4 MB/s 5714688+0 records in 5714688+0 records out 2925920256 bytes (2.9 GB) copied, 1212.03 s, 2.4 MB/s Marvel at the blistering write speed!! F421notebook stopped recognizing USB drives

I have been moving files between systems via USB drives. It had been going along well, when my system stopped recognizing that I plugged a drive in. ls /dev is not showing anything other than my SSD drive of sda What may be wrong? How might I troubleshoot this without rebooting? thanks

Fedora 42 fonts problem.

Howdy, This system is up to date with the FC42 packages repository. I prefer to start "x" manually and have /etc/inittab set to run level 3 (multi user). When I boot this system, the console fonts are VERY SMALL... to the point of unreadable... even with glasses. I have specified the boot parameter "ask=791" which sets the first part of the fonts but when the system continues and does a modeset(?), the fonts revert to REALLY SMALL. Personally, 791 isn't large enough. How can I get the fonts to be bigger? Best regards, George...

Issues with latest winehq-devel and wine-devel

On one system - Fedora 42 after upgrading to 10.9 it would fail running wine with anything notepad, cmd, and winecfg without using WINEDEBUG=+heap. but other systems with 10.9 worked fine with Fedora 42 and Fedora 41. Then after upgrading to 10.10 version had primary windows program I use have unusage changes to program display. Downgrade to 10.9 returned it to working just fine. Had other users using Unbutu have no problem with same App. Did a Virtual Box Clean install of Fedora 42, and get same results. App works fine with 10.9 but 10.10 has same unusable windows. downgrading to 10.9 gets it back to working. Created a Virtual Box Clean install of Unbuntu 25 (Nobel), and same app works fine with 10.10. Long ago had Redhat 9, but have used Fedora from Core 1 to latest 42. Was given a page that had instructions to get git version and do regression test, but has instructions to use apt. Was able to clone the git, and run configure and make to build the git version, but attempt to actually run the wine it build gives error that wine is a 64bit version but the wine-server is 32bit?? So, options are to stay at 10.9 or lower or drastically move to Unbutu? Seems that the WINEDEBUG=+heap just has it add could that implements use the ntdll/heap.c that has line 775 that has a close line that just tells it to ignore error if +heap option is set? Need font help for Fedora 42 on Vevobook 16

Howdy, I had to replace my computer about a month ago and have been struggling ever since with the fonts that FC42 wants to use. I have made some headway with this problem but am stuck now and need help. The desktop I'm using is Window Maker. I've tried Wayland but the size of the screen is REALLY small. There are a lot of applications that like to use small fonts... like LibreOffice, Firefox, Chrome... and utility windows like "save file". I'm hoping that there's a nice/easy fix for this problem. USB BluRay Drive Wrongly Identified

I have a BluRay drive that used to work with Fedora. I haven't used it for a while, but tried it today, and it's being treated as a SCSI drive. As a result, k3b (say) reports that it can't find an optical drive. Similarly, asunder thinks there's nothing from which it can rip a CD. Log below. Anything I can do? Strange problem with chroot

CentOs 9.4 installation is going into kernel panic. Trying to get access to the system from a running Fedora 41 installation. ~]# mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/sysimage ~]# for dir in /dev /proc /sys;do mount --bind $dir /mnt/sysimage/$dir;done ~]# chroot /mnt/sysimage Fatal glibc error: CPU does not support x86-64-v2 I've used this process a number of time between installations, What is failing now?
