argh -- can't get wireless in someone else's house

Still on FC4???? On a Pentium 3 too I presume? Clear-QAM and OTA require an ATSC tuner, while an NTSC tuner is needed for analog cable. There are tuner units which will do both, although not all will do so simultaneously. Mythdora is a Fedora based, all in one install of mythtv. It will set up everything you need from one iso image. And Mythtv has definitely NOT required 'your DBA to set up a database' since well before Fedora 4. If your hardware is known to Fedora, then mythtv will not require any 'channel entered frequencies'. You merely select the proper tuning basis, such as US-Broadcast or US-cable when setting up the tuner(s). At the moment, the problematic area is setting up QAM on cable channels due to the cablecos using their own variable channel numbers for the channels (and generally, not including proper PSIP infor in the stream). That is, of course, where the cableco actually provides some clear QAM...which Rogers Cable in Canada, for example, has not done since June 2007. Curl trouble in F42

Is it just me? When I do dnf upgrade on Fedora 42, I sometimes get error messages (generally failure to connect, or to connect aright, iiuc), blaming curl (of which all I know is how to spell it). Sometimes it does update some things but not others; sometimes the whole show stops. I'm presently running F42 Mate on three machines; I see nor rhyme nor reason as to the exact partial failures from one machine to another. -- Beartooth Staffwright, Not Quite Clueless Power User Remember I know little (precious little!) of where up is.

(Fedora-42; stand-alone workstation) This is a totally new Fedora install on a stand-alone workstation, done today. It is not a part of a LAN or WAN or any other home or office network. It is not dual-boot. I do need for Firefox, Thunderbird, and dnf to be able to interact with the "outside world" appropriately. I do occasionally need to be able to download or upload things. Beyond those (and maybe other appropriate things that don't at the moment come to mind), I do not want anyone or anything to be able to get into this workstation. For example, no "ssh", "scp", "rlogin". I gather from the Fedora docs that I should use firewalld or firewalld-config. I have both. But Fedora docs does not give me enough detail. I am not an IT professional. What specifically should I do to keep unwanted people and things out?

suspend

Hello, It seems linked to fedora 42. Now, when I go into suspend mode (from gnome), it may do it properly or not. Typically, if I start the suspend mode after running normally during a long time, it first goes well, but it does not entirely go suspend, cf. some fans still run. It it the case, the overall result is that I cannot not wake up the PC. I have to press the ON/OFF button which reboot the PC from scratch. Recently found that new Kernel would not install because not enough space in /boot.

On local 3 notebooks, was able to to remove oldest kernel using dnf, and modifying the dnf.conf to only allow 2 kernels. Then the install went thru ok. On one I shifted / partition over 512M and expanded /boot to make it 1.5G now. I've got 5 other machines that are 7 timezones away, and did same process to get them to be able to install new kernels. kernel module missing at boot after kernel update, akmods build it 2 minutes after kernel need it

I have Fedora 42 router/firewall, where I use the xt_geoip kernel module from xtables-addons in iptables. xt_geoip module is compiled using akmods after a kernel update during system boot. The problem is that akmods compilation takes place about two minutes after iptables starts - so iptables are not loaded at all. Now I solve this problem with some shell script running in the background from rc.local and introducing the necessary delay in iptables startup. But - is there any better "more systematic" solution?
