Does anybody know of a mouse with a scroll wheel that's not rubber

Most mice don't state what they're made of.

Like many mathematicians of my generation, I developed skin sensitivity
to blackboard chalk (actually, the binding agent).  Non-latex gloves or chalk
holders were common solutions.  Maybe you could wrap your finger with
tape (there non-slip adhesive tapes -- "vet-wrap" is one).

Yes, I do want a scroll wheel mouse and not a trackball.  They have
their purposes, but don't suit what I generally want to do.

There are mice that don't have a wheel, but do scrolling and gestures
with a touch-pad like surface.   I have used an Apple "MagicMouse"
<ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Mouse>with linux. I preferred it
over  the wheel mice (Dell + MS) in our lab at the time (mice are not
usable at sea -- working in an oceanographic institute, new mice often
ended up in junk boxes).
