Rebooting with only the AMD card connected to the monitor doesn't work
either. I may have to disable the IGP from the BIOS, but I can't
believe this is the only solution.

It may not be the only solution, but it is probably the least likely to give

problems in the long run across OS versions and driver updates.

Never trust cables and connectors -- you could try swapping HDMI cables.

My experience with switches has been that they work well if you find a stable

configuration (order in which systems are powered on), but screw up if

something changes (new GPU, OS update, etc.)
