On fedora 29 , sane-backends 1.0.27.
scanimage -L shows a number of scanners that are no longer connected, and haven't been used in years.
In what file is this info stored ? Couldn't find any reference under /etc/sane.d.
Is there a way to remove the old scanners from the command line ?

I'm no expert, but I guess config's to/ for (?) old scanners are also stored in one of your hidden user directory.
Crtl + h will unhide e.g. /home/<username>/ .xsane in my case

Great idea, but no cigar. ~/.sane and ~/.sane/xsane, no scanner list.
<Sigh>
Any other suggestions ?

I found that /etc/sane.d/dll.conf had a list of all of the various interface/protocol/brands that sane scanned for on startup. If I commented out all but the ones I used (net and hp) that startup was much faster and it didn't search for devices that may have once been configured and are long gone.

These scanners are most likely listed in some of the backend specific files under /et/sane.d
What is the list? Khowing what scanners are listed helps in giving better directions
