I would temper that advice with a bit of caution, *start* typing your
password. Be sure not to hit enter before you see something to show
that you're typing your password into a password box.
If a system has crashed, you could be typing your password into a
"enter username" box. Your password is now logged in the last users
log.
Or if the screen is just blanked and not locked yet, although in that
case it *doesn't* lift the shield unless you press ESC or use the mouse.
(The keys are just ignored.) But that's a good point and something I
do follow. I never hit enter until I see the password box.
