I just installed it on my F23 virtual machine (755 MByte download,

packages!!). I don't know anything about the program, but when I typed
"sage" I got the Sage version screen you got, and then the prompt
"sage:"
Just for kicks, I typed in "1+2" and it popped back "3."
Thanks to you and all who pointed out that sagemath works for them.
This encouraged me to look more carefully into the problem,
and I found that I had installed "enthought canopy" a year or so ago,
and this installation had appended lines to my .bashrc
affecting the operation of Ipython.
On removing these lines sagemath worked fine.
