Is it possible to save the firefox bookmarks so that when I do a clean install of FC4 I can reload them? I tried to cp the bookmarks.html file back into the /home/rmiles/.mozilla/firefox/0qem39dn.default directory but it did not restore them from an earlier saving of this file. It would be nice to be able to reset the bookmarks that I had in FC 3 to the FC 4 firefox.
Go to the file manager and export the HTML file. Then after reinstalling FC4, import them again.

I think that saving ~/.mozilla/firefox/bookmarks.html and putting again in the same place when you had your new fresh installation of FC4 it should be enough. I say more, I succeeded copying bookmarks.html from Fedora 3 to Windows, in my firefox user directory and I don't have any trouble. I have to say that I only use the default identity, but I don't know if Firefox allows more than one identity, well, one solution that always works is Will's advice.

Thanks to all who replied. I see that you can export bookmarks under the bookmark manager. It also has an import selection so this should work.

hello richard,
if you want to take bookmark portability further, you may want to check out http://www.chipmark.com. it lets you import your bookmarks into a central server and then, by downloading a firefox plugin, adds a "chipmarks" entry on your menu where your imported bookmarks can be found. it's sort of like webmail, you don't always have to synchronize your bookmarks.html whenever you access the internet.
it's still a new service though so expect some functionalities missing from your plain old bookmarks.html - favicons aren't saved, no live bookmarks, no sorting/separators.

Thanks for the info on chipmarks. I have imported my saved bookmarks. Everythinglooks good.
I'm running FC6 with a gnome desktop and find the sound going out intermittently. What this means is that applications like xmms give the message "Please check that your soundcard is configured correctly" and the volume control widget displays only the microphone. The one way I've found (so far) to get around this is to open system -> administration -> soundcard detection -> system -> reload audio drivers, which then requires a reboot before the sound comes back on.
