Fresh Install of Fedora 20 installed last night.
When browsing Facebook and I use the mouse wheel to scroll down, Firefox
pauses before it jumps down ( meaning it pauses for a few sec before it
finally gets the command that I scrolled down and the page finally goes
down)
I am using Fedora 20 Mate
2 gigs of ram
custom built pc
250 gig Hardrive
Installed last night full format since I was coming from Kubuntu
Only programs open Evolution and Firefox
Memory Usage currently: 357.2 MB ( 17.7 % )
Swap: 0 of 2 gigs
fully updated last night ( and fresh update of 384 patches was
slowwwwwwwwwww I had to let it run overnight on my 12 down 1 up sat
connection)

As long as you use yum (or yumex) you shouldn't do any harm. Just take a
quick look over the proposed changes before confirming.

That doesn't do any "harm", it just means that if you want to switch
back to MATE, you will have to reinstall it (yum groupinstall "MATE
Desktop")

Unless you are super tight on disk space, there is no need to remove one
desktop environment to use another. The advantage of keeping more than
one is that you can easily switch back if it turns out you like the old
one better.
# yum groupinstall "XFCE Desktop"
# yum groupinstall "LXDE Desktop"
Once you have installed the desktop environment(s) you want, when you
get to the graphical login screen, and click on your user, before
entering the password you should have an opportunity to choose which
desktop environment you want to log in to.

Unless you are super tight on disk space, there is no need to remove one
desktop environment to use another. The advantage of keeping more than

Once you have installed the desktop environment(s) you want, when you

Oh, a friend built this for me and sent it to me from Kansas to Texas.
So I kinda didnt have say it was a suprise when it showed up.
Maybe I should downgrade to XFCE or LDXE maybe?
can that be done like the ubuntu way? remove mate and install xfce or ldxe?
and if so how?

shovelled into a page, with lots of page layout styling applied to that
content. Throw in scripting and advertising, and it makes for a
difficult-to-do-quickly webpage.
Also, and I haven't seen any other message address this, have you turned
off the "smooth scrolling" feature of Firefox? It deliberately slows
down scrolling of pages, to try and do it in a smoother fashion. I find
it horrendous, as my reading speed is much faster than it wants to
scroll pages at (I'm not talking about reading the whole page verbatim,
I'm talking about skimming through to find the content that I'm
interested in, I'm not /that/ much of a speed reader).

"just click on one of the following files, **depending on what distribution you
use** and then follow the default options"
So, considering the phrase "depending on what distribution you use", what made
you think you should install the rawhide repo? What can be done to make the instructions
more clear to avoid others making the same mistake in the future?

Ok wait... this is interesting... it does the unresponsive scroll when
initially loaded but if I click on the page it scrolls fine without
pausing which is weird.

Well I clicked on rawhide thinking I was suppose to click on all of them
but when it came to rawhide it downloaded it but then popped up in red a
dependency error saying resolution not supported or something like that.
I just hit X but the Fedora 20 one installed fine

Since you seem to be new to Fedora you may want to avoid Rawhide. That's
really bleeding edge and is not a subject for this list (see the Fedora
Test list if you really want to try unreleased versions). And unless
you're into Fedora Rawhide there's no point enabling the RPMfusion
Rawhide repo.

of the stuff there gets into Stable after a while (Rawhide too but it
takes a lot longer).

it put in my password then this came up in red.. now what?
something about dependency error for res. size?
I guess I was only suppose to click on F20 not Rawhide?

oh crud.... I google it before I checked my email and googled nvidia
drivers... this page came up

I had one problem and thats at 3.1 said it didnt exist
3.2 the make font... something about not being a valid font
but at boot I saw the NVIDIA logo before the log on screen came up.
I think I am fixing to do section 4... return the pc back to Neou.

I don't know about Fedora 20 but I had the same with Fedora 19 using the
nouveau video driver which was very glunky and delayed in scrolling. I
installed the nvidia driver for my systems and the problem went away.
