Those hotkeys switch between different screen modes listed in your xorg.conf file (e.g. 800x600, 1024x800, etc.). If you don't have a list of choices, it's not going to switch. The modern behaviour of X is to not have a list of them in the configuration file, but for it to automatically use the highest mode compatible with your monitor and display adaptor, determined when starting up X. For things like LCD monitors, it's typically only going have just one fixed resolution. And you may find it easier to use something else as a screen magnifier. e.g. I had a play with using compiz's zoom feature a few days ago, I could hold down a super key and use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. I haven't tried the screen magnifier that's part of the assistive technologies preferences, I don't know how that does its trick.

FWIW, it isn't working on my F8 machine with a Nvidia video card. I just looked at my xorg.conf file and I do not have an other resolution in it. I have Fedora 7 here and 8 on two other machines and I didn't even know about the zoom. I wish I had. But it doesn't work here either. Is there something that has to be set to enable it? Is it just called desktop zoom or how should I google it? Glaucoma here makes reading web pages and finding Icons difficult sometimes, along with some applications I need to run.

I have one example of a laptop that has had problems but is currently running Fedora-8: An IBM A31p Thinkpad. I have two more of these laptops that had Fedora-8 installed on them that have now been reverted to Fedora-7 because of the Zoom problem. The other systems currently running Fedora-8 are server systems that are not running X Windows. There are some workstations in remote locations running either Fedora-8, Fedora-7 or some version of Ubuntu that are not aware of the problem or are not using the feature. The Zoom feature tries to work with this laptop but fails to return to the original virtual desktop size and does not allow the mouse to push the borders of windows that are smaller than the virtual window. X has to be restarted to restore the original largest desktop.
