#100: Fedoraproject.org banner (not being dynamic) problem

The amber(features & screenshot), green(downloads), pink?(community),
blue(using fedora) and purple(help) color banners at
fedoraproject.org are not big enough/don't automatically expand if the
(translated) string is more than one line. Text is lost when translation
can't be 'one line wide' due to local word length/syntax.
Suggested is 'it depends of your browser, probably because "em" font size
is used and not px' in combination with website design not being dynamic.

[fedora-websites] #246: fedora.css sets a universal scaling factor of 76%, which is much too small

#246: fedora.css sets a universal scaling factor of 76%, which is much too small
-----------------------+---------------------------

Component: General | Keywords: css font size

fedora.css, which all Fedora websites are encouraged to use, has this
right at the top:
body
{
font-size: 76%;
background: #FFFFFF url(../images/border-left.png) 0 0 repeat-y;
}
It's been there for years, since before the stuff was imported to git, so
its history may be obscure at this point, but Googling around, it looks
like 76% was considered a 'rule' by some so-called authorities at some
point. http://www.sitepoint.com/css-font-sizing-tutorial/ has mention of
it in the comments, http://forums.modx.com/thread/?thread=17583 has some
chatter about it, http://www.baekdal.com/insights/new-minimum-font-size is
from 2005 and cites 76% as the new *minimum* recommended font size, etc.
I think it's pretty unarguably too small for the modern day, though.
Taking the standard 'base size' for browsers - 16px - and using the 96dpi
convention, text at '76%' is 12.16px in size, which is equivalent to 9pt.
How many people do you know who have their desktops set to a 9pt font on a
modern system? Particularly a modern *laptop*. Reading text on Fedora
sites on most systems without zooming or overriding the CSS or setting a
large minimum px size in your browser (which is undesirable for other
reasons) is a pretty tiring experience even for me, and I still have
effectively perfect eyesight for reading text; it must be more or less
impossible for anyone with somewhat less than perfect eyesight.
Yes, this is the thing Felix Miata is always banging on about, but you
know what? Now I spent a day actually looking into this stuff, he's
absolutely damn right. Sorry, Felix. I hope this post was calm and
reasonable enough and brought enough numbers. :)

We are moving towards Fedora 21 Alpha and this time we will have some more
changes on the webpages, although we will '''NOT''' switch to the new
layout for prerelease versions. So, as for the other Alpha releases we
need to:
* Add Alpha banner
* change globalvar.py accordingly
* add checksums
* check DL links
The release schedule actually doesn't have a release date, it's still
''not earlier than August 5th'', so our script for the the upcoming Beta
and GA release dates probably will not work properly.
Remember the images will not be the same as for F20: we will have 3
prodcucts and accordingly we should keep only 3 jquery tabs, without
preferring any product on the main get-prerelease page.
Server WG asked and obtained a different deadline for Alpha release, that
means we need to keep in mind Server will be released later than Cloud and
Workstation.

Unable to add blog to Fedora Planet
by Paul Kuruvilla
Hi,
I'm a GlitterGallery contributor and I've been trying to add my blog to planet.fedoraproject.org. I've added my SSH key, and am still unable to login. It says "Permission denied (publickey)". I'm pretty sure that I uploaded the correct public key. I'm aware of the one hour delay - I've tried this multiple times, and have tried logging in after 24hrs, still not able to. My user name is rohitpaulk. Could you please give me further instructions?

Sponsorship on Websites Project
by Benjamin Thompson
Hello, I'd like to lend a hand if I can on your MediaWiki theme update
project. I have some experience with web development (usually with Python,
but also some PHP). I'm also trying to get better practiced at CSS.
I believe I need a sponsor in order to join the web group on
admin.fedoraproject.org and get into the fedorapeople.org account I have
set up. Any assistance you can offer I would greatly appreciate. Thank
you!

Introduction Phillip T. George
by Phillip T. George
(This e-mail was originally sent to the infrastructures list, but a few
tweaks have been made to express what I am interested in)
Hey everybody. I'm looking to join the Fedora project to give something
back to the community. I've been a Linux user for quite awhile, and
Linux has been a big part of a career.
Previous to my current role I was a Linux sysadmin/engineer for a couple
of years. My client's environment is made up RHEL (75%), Solaris (<5%),
and Windows (~20%). The total server count is around 5-6K -- that does
include some virtuals, but it is primarily physicals. I definitely work
for a large corporation, but I'm not here to represent them in any way
at this point in time. I have been using Linux distros for nearly 20
years (probably since around 1997).
My current role involves automation of existing processes and tools.
Its a lot of trying to introduce people to common scripting practices as
well as making systems communicate that previously did not (often
through an orchestration engine).
I have a lot of skills/knowledge/experiences, some significant, some not
so much.
Programming/scripting: PHP (w/ MySQL), JS, HTML, CSS, jQuery (mostly for
UI), bash, C/C++, Java, Objective C, Perl
OSes: Fedora, RHEL, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat (pre-enterprise),
Windows (server 2008, server 2003, 8, 7, XP, and older OSes)
Projects:
1. Fedora customized build for Linux sysadmins/engineers at work (now
its a retrofit script)
2. PHP-based front-end for a change management tool -- uses an
orchestration engine to do the work, though all of the orchestration
steps had to be created (SOAP based in this case, though there were some
pre-fabricated operations that helped with this a bit)
3. PHP-based server build/configuration tool -- just for Linux but
planning on using it for other OSes eventually. Has multiple
levels/objects you can configure: Server, Profile (multiple), OS (w/
hierarchy), and Site/Location
4. PHP-based report/data customized viewer -- a perl script imports a
massive CSV to allow updating of the data without having to push around
CSV/spreadsheet files
5. iPhone note sharing app
6. Lots of miscellaneous partially finished projects -- mostly game
development projects
Unfortunately these projects are not open source, so I cannot share them
with you. Though the iPhone note sharing app is not open source, I have
full rights to it, though I doubt anyone here is interested in that :)
Obviously I have many interests. The best summary of my interests would
be: computer-based technology. A more focused summary would be: Linux
and programming.
Today, I am interesting in doing some sysadmin/engineer and possibly web
development work. Tomorrow (figuratively speaking), it may be more than that.
I'm willing to provide up to 5 hours a week of my time. For now, I'd like
to join the "sysadmin-web" FIG.
