fedora 16 with xen balloning.
by itamar
hi.
I have a fedora 16 with all updates.
when I run xm mem-set 0 1024 the machines crashes after some seconds.

libvirt + Fedora Core 16
by Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk
Hey Jim,
I remember you did a lot of the work on making libvirt interface
with Xen, and I was wondering what the status of it is?
I can use the virsh commands:
virt-install -l nfs:master:/data/tftpboot/f16-x86_64 --ram 1024 --disk /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img --name F16
Starting install...
Retrieving file .treeinfo... | 1.7 kB 00:00 ...
Retrieving file vmlinuz... | 7.9 MB 00:00 ...
Retrieving file initrd.img... | 256 MB 00:12 ...
Creating domain...
But I can't do the same using the 'virt-manager'. Is it some different code?
BTW, thanks for making 'libvirt' work with 'xl'!

Fwd: Xen Pvops Dom0 feature in F16

Are we there yet?
The only "blocker" bug I really see is Bugzilla #739134, "GRUB 2 has
extraneous menu entries after installing Xen". Even this is somewhat
aesthetic.

I believe so (the irrelevant part). But the functionality part of grubby picking
up /etc/sysconfig/kernel and making that kernel the default is not in Grub2 - so
not sure how that can be addressed.

Somehow the xen-kbdfront driver is not included in the initrd image
(I think) - and we end with anaconda but can't type anything. I've been trying
to figure out how to inject said module in the install initrd to see if that is
really the problem but running in roadblocks (like xz 5.1.1alpha or 5.0.3 complains
about corrupt image, or I've no idea how to make driver disks).
Any ideas?

There's no question that if you are CPU bound and have lots of tasks
more is better. But that's an unusual case, the load type seen in
scientific calculations and rendering images. For more common loads
memory, storage, or network are often the limiting factor. Since the
original question didn't really make it clear what the load would be or
what budget was available I thought it was worth suggesting an option
leaving more budget for things which may be bottlenecks.
General questions often get general answers.

We are not out of the woods yet, but we know the direction and have

Motherboard/Processors/Memory For Dual Processor Xen System
by Bob Cochran
I want to build a new computer system that features dual processors, a
lot of memory, and is able to run Xen virtualization. Install Fedora and
Xen as the host on such a machine, and then start running a variety of
other operating systems as virtual machines.
What dual processor hardware configurations work well with Xen? For
example will any Supermicro brand dual processor motherboard be hardware
compatible with Xen? I am thinking of Supermicro boards with Xeon
processors. Or is there a better brand of motherboard?
Thanks
