Re: XFCE 4.12 on EPEL7
by Steve Dodier-Lazaro
Hi Fedora devs,
By all means if you think there is a problem in our dependencies for Parole
please let us know on the Xfce dev ML. It might be that an older version of
Parole can be used for epel7.
Also note neither Parole or Pragha are core Xfce packages so even if
they're too recent for one of your target systems, you can still ship the
rest of Xfce :-)
Cheers,

F22 (With xfce 4.12) Request: Switch to gstramer1.0
by Matias De lellis
Hi,
Sinse Xfce people deprecated the xfce4-mixer, that was the only
package of xfce core that depended heavily on gstreamer0.10, and now
that Andrzej developed xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin and was packaged on
fedora, I think it's time to make the leap to gstreamer1.0.
Where?.
Parole and Pragha at this time was compiled with gstreamer 0.10. Both,
can be compiled with gstreamer 1.0, and the ISO image not contain
others packages that depend on gstreamer 0.10
Why?.
Beyond the improvements, which are many, gstreamer developers
expressly said that would not accept any bug in 0.10.
Note: Parole 0.8 compile with 1.0 by default, and pragha 1.2 need
compile with 'configure --with-gstreamer=1.0'. Pragha 1.3.* that now
recomend also switch to gstramer 1.0 by default.
What do you think?
Regards,
Matias.
p.s: xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin 0.2 was released.. Improve a lot. =)

Xfce 4.12 on Rawhide
by Be
Will Xfce 4.12 be in updates (stable) for Fedora 21? I have been working on a Fedora Remix with Xfce and am nearly ready to publish it. It would be nice to have Xfce 4.12 in the first release.

The current plan is to test in rawhide for a few days at least and find
any major issues and clean up any problems, then look at building for
f22 and submit our late change and a freeze break to get into the
alpha compose (if we can).
Note that testing 4.11.x was fine, but there were still changes between
them and 4.12 in some cases I think and of course there's the
integration parts, etc

For my personal speaking, I do not need those plugins and think I never
did. But maybe they could be useful for users still using a modulating
demulator? Sorry, just kidding. Let those goodies die in peace. :)
The only one I could imagine to be necessary to keep and may have a use
case is xfce4-notes-plugin. Maybe we should file any upstream bugs to
request a port to libxfce4ui:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11623
Oh well, and the timer plugin. It should be deprecated cause of
xfce4-hamster-plugin that has more features.

Presentation.
by Matias De lellis
Hi People,
My name is Matias De lellis. I am Argentine, 28 years, and I
registered here to participate a little in the integration of xfce
4.12 on Fedora. I have a few contributions in this new release, and
I'm really excited about this.
Before I was in contact with some of you by being the developer Pragha
and xfce4-soundmenu-plugin.
Some know that Pragha was ported to gtk3. About it, personally
sometimes I think that I sold my soul to the devil, but in general was
very positive things, like the implementation of plugins, and thanks
to it, many interesting things.
Of course, as it depends on a version of libxfce4ui that was not
stable (Optional but totally recommended) I opposed myself to update
Pragha in stable repositories. Although Pragha 1.2 version is still
maintained, it is increasingly difficult. and now with the release of
Xfce 4.12 we can make the jump.
Mmm.. here you can test last version to see all changes:
https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/matias/Pragha-updated/
Something similar happened with Parole, which is an official
application for Xfce and was a shame. :S
So in principle, I would like to participate as a co-maintainer of
these packages. Some opposition?. However, I do not know as it is the
official procedure for all this. Please guide me in the process. ;)
Regards,
Matias.

Just thank you!.
It's too late for Fedora 22 ?. All packages were tested thanks your
copr repository.

Please split the gtk2 and gtk3 version in two packages. This to avoid
any confusion with applications that depend on gtk3 as the latest
versions of pragha and parole. =)

The same. This will be very useful to use fedora as development
environment to xfce 4.14 =)

Never install rawhide. Maybe try it on a virtual machine..

Thanks to you,
