About package maintainance complexities and new contributors

I know the right solution should be to grow a community that uses them, and eventually helps with the maintain... But I fear that the skills necessary to mantain the packages are too high and the overall system too complicated to attract many new packagers. I asked many time for help and always gratefully accepted every request for co-mantaining. I also tried to teach to various people in my lab and in others how to do that and they invariably got scared and back off.
